My friend Chris H (from Paddling.net) and I went paddling early saturday morning (at 7am) to go kayaking on Splitrock Reservoir which is just north of Rockaway/Hibernia, NJ in the Farny Highlands and is a backup reservoir for Jersey City on a beautiful fall day. Air temps were in the 30s but the water was bathtub warm, as expected. As expected a real pretty mist was covering parts of the lake which just made is all the more prettier and awesome. To think that this jewel of a lake is about 15 minutes from my house, is just unbelievable. We paddled down to the other end of the lake (about 3 miles away) and ate lunch on a deserted island and kind of watched the mist break up as the sun hit the air and warmed it up. We ran into the Hackensack Canoe and Kayak club on the way back but they didn't launch til 10ish and missed the mist.
