Date of Hike: 5/5/2008
Trail Conditions: A little bit of everything. Some dry sections, lots of wet sections, patchy snow and ice, flooded areas. Snow is patchy in most areas. On either side of Mt. Gilman was most snow and flooded areas. South Ridge Trail has a large blowdown but blazes on either side make the way clear. Holt Trail has more water flowing down it than I had hoped making it more difficult, but doable.
Special Equipment Required: Neither traction nor flotation needed. Deepest snow found was a foot deep. Low gaiters may be useful.
Comments: Did an indirect loop from the west side. Cardigan Mtn Rd is still gated so add an extra half mile of road walk and 250 ft of elevation to your plans. Went up West Ridge to South Peak and Rimrock, then Skyland over to Mt. Gilman. Took Vistamont over to Holt Trail to Cardigan. Went down by South Ridge Trail. About 8.5 miles and 3000' of elevation.
