A friend sent me a Facebook link from March 6th to Stowe Mountain Rescue about a backcountry skier who ran into trouble skiing on Mt Mansfield within the past couple of days. You may need a Facebook account (I think) in order to see this info.

If you read further down the page, there are additional write-ups of incidents they've responded to in the Central VT area. Their posts are non-shaming. Quite an impressive outfit IMHO.

Excellent article. Thanks for posting.

Cannon Mountain has had at least two solo skier fatalities on the Upper Ravine Trail. Both skiers accidentally crashed off trail deep into the woods but were not found until the next morning.
The place that skier died is on the windward of Mt Mansfield, and faces west. It is the first land mass that the winds coming off Lake Champlain hit, and the elevation difference is over 4,000', so the orographic effect is substantial. It's part of the reason why Jay Peak get so much snow, and you can see some of the Backcountry trails that have been cut on Big Jay.
