  • I was surprised at how low quality the saw in the USFS cache was - if we had to rely on it we would have been screwed! I plan to buy a saw before this weekend, I will check out your link. Thanks!
BTW, do you know if te forest service reimburses us for stuff we buy?
Thanks for the greenie Chris! Hope to meet you on the trail sometime! Believe me, Thor is as addicted to hiking as I am!;)
Yes, I broke the handle. It was an old axe that I found in the garage. I will pick up a new one this year. I might order the Rogue hoe, not just for trail work, but for yard work as well. Thanks for the link.
Hello cooperhill! That is pretty much the same vein, though I've done it different ways. Have found it best that first trip is strictly blowdowns and waterbars. Be it as it may, the AMC choppin crew sometimes gets there first as they fly through early season. We've bested them at least twice though, actually meeting them on FRT as they prepare to descend. At least it saved them a trip down to LW and a carspot. The second trip is almost exclusively brushing and waterbars, and then the third trip is waterbars, blowdowns, and blazing touch ups. The third trip we usually do in October. I think the AMC field crew will beat us to the blowdowns this year early June. I usually go up the first weekend of June but this year our daughter graduates on that weekend.
Have fun with CTA! The Upper Valley is still full of snow, but it is receding! I've had enough of 'shoes this year!
Let me know if you want to catch up next time your over this way. I'm only a couple miles from KAF. Even less from Lou's (maybe .5 miles?)
Chris, I seem to have misplaced your email. We are planning on another Trails Day (June 4th) with trailwrights on Dan Doan trail. Interested? I need to get you your stuff sack back as well....hope all is well,

    jason
Chris, sorry to hear about Maggie being attacked. It can be incredibly scary when we watch those we love get attacked. Could tell by the way you handled Maggie on the trail that day on Speckled that you are a considerate dog owner. Hope all is well.
Thanks for the greenie! Don't know if you remember you ran into me and BF in the Lee Market Basket?
Hey Chris . . . thanks for the reply. Sorry you took a spill on your Caribou attempt. I'm sure that is very atypical for you.
Yes, give that Bog Road approach a try sometime. As I said in my report, it was my first time using that route, and it was a pleasant surprise. Nice woods, easy brook crossings, not overly steep, etc.
Hey, the link doesn't work. But from what I observed I doubt that much remains of any trails between Big Attitash and Table because the undestory is quite thick in places. The east side of Big Attitash however is more open hardwoods until almost the summit. Lots of moose activity up there. We stirred one up on our way through.
Thanks for the positive feedback! Are you connected to the Obs other than a member? The photo by Peter Bosco on page 39 is also me, but no one believes me! 8 )
Thanks! My little guy has only experienced a few stream crossings, all at very low levels. Fortunately, he's still small enough (21lbs) for me to carry if we encountered anything at all dangerous.

Would Maggie be interested in joining our VFTT dog hike next weekend?? Please do consider it if you're around :).
