We did that for FOT48 in 2009. It's a nice route. Stairs and Davis are great peaks...and don't forget about Crawford.

I did that loop last year in the same direction. I'm going to try and fit it in this year too. I never thought the strech between So Twin and Zealand would end. Fire Wardens was quick.

From the top of the headwall just find the best line upward. The ridge is straight uphill.
Kinda thick as I remember.

Hey dude, you do a lot of running in them mountains?

I've only done the loop once, so I can't really compare. I liked being able to run the Wilderness Trail first thing in the morning by headlamp when I wasn't dead tired. Running down the Osceo trail at the end of the day is much easier than running out the flat Wilderness trail.

Thanks, that was me. I cleared water bars to the summit on Friday. There seems to more and more each year. The hike over the Wildcats the next day almost did me in. Next up...a whole lot of brushing.

Best route for Alpine Garden depends on whether or not you just want to see the flowers or if you need to spend a few hours up there, doing photography.

If I'm going just for a look-see, I'll go up the Tuckerman Ravine Trail because as soon as I get out of the ravine, I've got the Alpine Garden Trail right there on my right. However, I believe that this trail is still closed through the ravine, so the Lions Head Trail would be the way to go -- like the Tuckerman Ravine Trail, it will put you near the southern end of the Alpine Garden, too.

And...if I'm going up top and need the maximum amount of time for photography (several hours), I'll forego foot power and take (yes), the Auto Road and park at about mile 6.5, where the Huntington Ravine Trail terminates next to the road. There's a parking area for about three cars on one side of the road, and another for a couple of cars on the opposite side. From there, it's 0.3 miles to the northern terminus of the Alpine Garden trail.

Thank you for the green square -- much appreciated! Get up to the Alpine Garden this week, if you can. You may have cloudy conditions, but those will cause the colors to pop a bit more (than in the bright sun we had last week).
