Best Rainy Day Hikes in Whites

If it doesn't have to be a 4k, and it's really pouring, our family always goes for a waterfall! Sometimes we do a hiking / driving waterfall tour. Other thoughts - Greeley Ponds from Waterville Valley Pemi Trail from the Basin up to Lafayette CG, to Echo Lake, to Cannon, then back down again...

    Tuckerman's today

Never saw anything like it! We arrived at 9AM to hike Lowe's Bald Spot. The 3 lots at Pinkham were full and cars were parked on Rte 16 for 3/4 of a mile or so. Hope everyone skied safely - there must have been a few mishaps with sooo many people there. If anyone was thinking of going...

    Anyone in the Ossipees today?

Thanks I checked Trails NH yesterday and the VFTT post you referenced was not there yesterday, not there this AM either. Maybe they're selective in what they bring in from other sites. Snowshoes packed, off shortly.

Snowshoeing, x-c for kids near Lincoln?

I'm confused - I thought Bretton Woods lift ride led to a snoeshoe trail down a road? From the website- "High Country Snowshoe Trails Enjoy self-guided, lift-serviced, mountain-top snowshoe adventures! Rentals available in the Alpine Rental Center located in the Bretton Woods Base Lodge...

Snowshoeing, x-c for kids near Lincoln?

Our family is headed to Lincoln for the weekend. Grandkids are 4 and 6. The 6 yr old was given x-c skis and has been doing pretty well with them in his back yard. With the deep snow, do you think Lincoln Woods or the Eastside trails would be tracked out by Saturday and doable for a beginnner...

    Snowshoers/XC skiers

To expand a little on what Mad River said about Livermore - Without a pass you can use Livermore to access hiking trails. The Greeley Ponds Trail is "free" as is the Timber Camp Tr, the Scaur, etc. If Livermore is busy , as it is on the weekends, snowshoeing for a distance on Livermore...

    Indian Head Pipe

Mt Willard pipes?? Speaking of pipes - We went up Willard a few weeks ago and wondered why there were large cement pipes crossing the trail. I noticed maybe 6 of them, but there were probably more. Maybe 9 - 12 inches in diameter. Ideas?

Bay Circuit Trail - Ch. 5 to Chronicle (Oct. 29)

Thanks for posting this, Amicus. I put it on the calendar. Your post prompted me to take a look at the BCT website. It's very detailed, great site. My husband and I have hiked or snowshoed so many of the properties the trail passes through - Ward Reservation, Harald Parker, Bradley Palmer...

    Ossipee foliage?

Looks like a beautiful weeekend for viewing some great color! Are the Ossipees at peak, or do we need to continue up to Franconia Notch? Haven't seen a recent trip report from the Ossipees.

    Half Dome

Awsome trip report! We were in Yosemite the first week in June. We spoke with a few hikers who had permits for Half Dome. The trail, however, wasn't open, cables not yet hung, because of late snow falls. Congratulations on a great accomplishment!

Whitewall Mtn. and a scary little knife edge

Great pictures! Anyone know when the slide on Whitewall occurred? We were on the Ethan Pond trail last week. Having seen Whitewall from Zeacliff the summer before, we finally got back to enjoy the view from the Ethan Pond Trail.

easy 4K where I can see other flags on Flags On The 48

a vote for Cannon We had the priviledge of raising the flag on Cannon in 2007. A group from NJ came up specifically for the flag raising. Some took the tram up, others hiked. The tram is a great option, whether up or down. If you want to see flags and have great views, I think Cannon is...

    Postcards from Yosemite

Thanks for commenting everyone. For anyone going to Yosemite this summer: - My husband warned me about crowds, but I have never seen anything in a National Park like the hoards of people in Yosemite. Plan on arriving mid week if you can. - The Mist Trail to Vernal is busy, but we found that...
