worth a new "Best restaurant for post-hike dinner in Whites" thread ?

Didn’t read all the posts and don’t frequently stop for post-hike meals, but a former boyfriend and I had a really good meal a few years back at Fabyan’s Station on Route 302. He had a connection through his family from his childhood and thought it would be a good stop for us after my third or...

Has anyone here ever come across human remains in the woods?

The only part of the copy and pasted news article that I’d challenge - as it doesn’t jibe with my recollection of the incident - is the characterization that Post’r Boy was participating in some sort of geocaching game. As far as I recall, he was “just” regular old bushwhacking/peakbagging...

Has anyone here ever come across human remains in the woods?

Remnants of what remains of the original thread (no pun intended). Trail conditions report appears gone at this point. I remember the story well although it took me a couple of hours to remember the screen name of the finder. Skull on Kancamagus

N.E. Clean Power Connect in Maine - Should we care ?

Older but interesting article about the source of much of the objection to the transmission line. Of course, folks want to wrap it up in virtue about being all about protection of natural wildlife habitat … but having taken several trips to the Maine/Quebec border area observing the culture of...

N.E. Clean Power Connect in Maine - Should we care ?

And here I was thinking this was a thread about the proposed uglification of the mountainous Maine/Quebec border area where some of us like to hike. :D

N.E. Clean Power Connect in Maine - Should we care ?

^^^^ Again, not disagreeing and no slight towards peakbagger was intended. Based on my quick read of three and a half years worth of thread with lots of broken links, this was basically a project that would have generated clean Canadian-produced hydroelectric energy to New England via 145...

N.E. Clean Power Connect in Maine - Should we care ?

^^^^^ Yes this is correct. Also known as “stay in your lane.” If you use an internal combustion engine and travel hundreds of miles on interstate highways, secondary roads and logging roads to reach far flung trailheads near the Maine/Quebec border only to finish those last few miles on...

N.E. Clean Power Connect in Maine - Should we care ?

Responsive to the OP … I neither care nor don’t care. Laid eyes on the Kibby Mountain wind project for the first time last weekend. Based on the hyperbole, I was expecting to be following wind mills from trailhead to summit as if they were cairns. Instead, I saw exactly one during the hike...

    Three Monadnock rescues

One of my favorite mountain memories continues to be from my one and only (winter) hike of Monadnock 20 or so years ago. Wasn’t too terribly concerned about conditions and hiked on up the White Dot trail in jeans and three season hiking boots. Had crampons but didn’t bring them. About halfway...

Any NE p2k finishers out there?

Responsive to the OP, why yes … yes I am a NE P2K finisher. Closed the deal on Kibby and Boundary Bald this past weekend. :D

    Boundary Bald in Maine

I can confirm that the Falcon Guide route described above is right on the money. Hiked Boundary Bald yesterday and the only issue I encountered was the freshly fallen snow. Signage in multiple spots and the trail is blue blazed from the point it branches off Trail Road.

    Boundary Bald in Maine

I attached a photo of the map included in the guidebook that is basically self-explanatory. If you want me to send you the full text from the guidebook, send me your email address via PM and I’ll get it to you. Route is very lightly used. Marked blue but apparently difficult to follow in spots.

    Boundary Bald in Maine

Hmmmm. Interesting. This is one of my final two Northeast P2K peaks but the best beta I have is from “Best Easy Day Hikes Greenville Maine” … which basically says to follow Bald Mountain Road for 4.2 miles after turning off 201 and then turning left on Notch Road for .2 miles to the end of the...

    Maine 2021 - Solo P2K Peakbagging

Thanks guys! I may not be as high volume as some others here but I feel like the diversity of what I go after stands up pretty well. Thanks again for reading as well as for your positive comments. :)

    Maine 2021 - Solo P2K Peakbagging

Thanks Barkingcat and kerry 13! In terms of the beta that I found online for some of these hikes as well as other lightly visited New England P2K peaks, I have to give a shout out to Quincy Koetz … whose reports I’ve found to be dead-on accurate. His accounts are from the mid-2010s and I have...

    Maine 2021 - Solo P2K Peakbagging

Thank you dug and Northeast P2K completer SpencerVT! I actually had no original intentions of writing a report for this trip but a couple of days after I got home, I realized that I had quite a lot to say about it all and just started typing completely out of nowhere. As the saying goes, writing...
