    Another Falling Waters Loop Fatality

One of the things you can do in BSP, Yosemite and other National Parks (Could do at Grand Canyon, GSMNP would be hard though) is restrict access to the park. Few or no people live in it. Access in to several parks are on a few roads only. You can't close every trailhead along 302, and 16, and...

    Another Falling Waters Loop Fatality

I'm sure more details will come out in time. The hike has been in "Walking" Magazine. (Likely for a summer walk) Some I think believe that since Franconia Ridge is not Washington or on the same massif as Washington. so the weather will not be as bad, even though there is nothing above 4400 ft...

    Winter parking updates ?

Seven Dwarfs is still $10 on the windshield, I asked over on the FB Group and somebody there checked.

    Ski stations update ?

Does Wildcat have a downhill hiking policy? If I go up 19 Mile to Carter Notch and then up Wildcat over A, B, C & then D, can I walk downhill without a pass? I'm not planning on doing it again anytime soon. If I get to Wildcat D around 3:30, they will be near the last runs of the day.

    Odd and interesting

I guess if you hike with your dog in NH, we worried if he wanders out of sight. https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/rare-parasite-infects-two-hunters-213018101.html

    Recent Snowfall 12/17

It does look like a lot of rain and then cold or maybe downhill ice skating. Water crossings may be difficult on Saturday if it is mostly rain this time. On another note, I brought up in the 4K FB group some of the old winter starting points as I saw someone was thinking Wildcat Ridge was the...

    Hiker fatality on Mt. Willard

We've strayed quite a bit from Eggy's fall.

    Hiker fatality on Mt. Willard

So you can track those who buy but not how many use it 0 x a year or 100 x a year.

    Hiker fatality on Mt. Willard

Since you don't track hikers and climbers you can't come up with a percentage of accidents to users or fatalities to users. You'd have to pull ski-resorts financial data apart to see if they list ticket sales. Does NH require a license for snowmobiles? Is F&G reports archived? Deaths on the...

    Hiker fatality on Mt. Willard

When I was much more active hiking in the Whites in the winter, I would kept track of all the fatalities, downhill skiing, snowmobiling, climbing and hiking. I'm not sure the 4K group is that much into history. The years would seem to rotate on who had more fatalities, some years it would be...

    Hiker fatality on Mt. Willard

This weeks storm that may bring a decent snowfall total Thursday and Friday. Saturday Morning's trails should be unbroken until many with snowshoes pack them out, the next 18 days may not be fatality free.

I would agree, however, I don't know the person at all or seen anything else they've done or posted.

His employer has identified the hiker as he and his wife both worked at the Cog. It is on the Cog's FB page.

General Mountaineering Ice Axe vs An Actual Ice Axe

Great info. Oddly, in MFOTH, The axe is supposed to be used before crampons. How often do we bring both Micro's and 12- point crampons? If you just bring the Mciro's you should be ready to bail if you get ice that would overwhelm your footwear. (Yet we know some will prevail missing, or...

NH Fish And Game Seeking Help With Missing Hiker

LOL, growing older (never grew up) we had a book called "The Dictionary for the Disenchanted". This certainly pre-dated social media beyond personal ads in free newspapers. It's actually on Amazon, from 1972. https://www.amazon.com/Dictionary-disenchanted-Bernard-Rosenberg/dp/B0006C4KBC I...

NH Fish And Game Seeking Help With Missing Hiker

So using an email account I barely use and another computer in the house and I managed to become a product of Zuckerberg. If it's that easy to get by their "security", it's no wonder that the word of the year is Catfishing. Pending approval over at the NH 4K group.

Rescue on 19-year old on Alqonquin

Thankfully, because God loves idiots, (I've been the idiot on several occasions too.) he is still alive. The late start, poor gear (micros on Algonquin is a stretch even IMO) a friend who turned around, apparently no map as the Loj is the best exit. Unsure what their experience was, only 19 so...

    Ed Webster -- RIP

RIP, somewhere I have I believe Steve V.'s book which describes the Everest Trip. Somehow I missed that he was a New Englander before he went around the world.
