How long has VFTT been in existence?

I am pretty certain I first joined in 1995. It was the very first website I ever bookmarked.

Trail Runner Rescue - Mt Isolation Trail.

I like how he shifted it from going deeply into the middle of the woods in a pair of shorts where he would admittedly freeze to death if something happened, to the dog. Sort of surprised he didn't blame postholes, too. :D I'm sure he has amassed a lot of miles doing just the same, but I...

Would it happen in NH? S&R tells someone to hunker down for the night

If a rescuer shows up, do you interview them and if deemed insufficient, do you shoo them away and tell them to send something better? :D

Would it happen in NH? S&R tells someone to hunker down for the night

Define "hiking". I've amassed many thousands of miles in my life. Some are rugged peaks from Newfoundland to Alaska. Some are on sandy beaches. Some on rolling hills, open fields, tree farms, river valleys, or along dirt roads. Some are within a designated Nationally designated area (i.e...

Would it happen in NH? S&R tells someone to hunker down for the night

Interesting reading the comments this morning. Theme seems to be that "it's their job and what they signed up for". Might give a view into the thought process some have amassed, that coming to the mountains and their being a paid staff to cater and/or save you should you need it is a real thing.

#4 should come with a bumper sticker and T-shirt "This body carried out by SAR on Mt. Washington"

Would it happen in NH? S&R tells someone to hunker down for the night

Probably need to separate injured vs. lost vs. tired vs. overdue. We've amassed a lot of instances where "hunker down" was, actually, the safest option (i.e. putting someone else in danger for something that, honestly, isn't life threatening). An injury, even something we deem minor could turn...

    Sponsorship and Risk

It's a worthy question surely. PB this ties into a conversation I had recently about Instagram. Lots of (seemingly) inexperienced people taking risks for clicks and to satisfy the followers they have amassed. The idea of going for a walk in the woods just for the sake of just that, a walk...

    The Ossipee Range

I love maps too and have amassed quite a bit over the years. Love the old USGS you can get and see the changes over time. I've seen the old TB maps and agree, very well done. He must've amassed quite a few notes and details to put that out.

Patagonia Founder Donates Entire Company Worth $3 Billion

https://doughnuteconomics.org/stories/183 "To date, Patagonia’s sole shareholder has been the Chouinard family, enabling Mr Chouinard to amass an estimated net worth of $1.2bn. Arguably this follows the classic neoliberal playbook – extract value from nature and transform it into wealth...

Patagonia Founder Donates Entire Company Worth $3 Billion

I think it's wonderful that he's amassed a lot of money and is in a position to do what he wants with it. If that happens to be helping others, more power to him. But it was his choice to do so.

I don't get the angst with what others want to do. If someone wants to carry something because it makes them feel more comfortable, it has no affect on me. I personally wouldn't bother, and the only real interaction was with Brutus, the Pemi bear who ended up being put down (I believe). If we...

    How to manage WMNF

I always find it interesting in how "rich" is defined. Seems to often be a few dollars more than what the individual makes. Meaning...millions of people throughout the world would think I'm rich. Millions of people throughout the world would think I am poor. That's why it's a lazy argument...
