    Mt Clinton Trail

I love that idea and was thinking we should now hike that trail with more frequency to get it in better shape. Perhaps a story in Backpacker that tells everyone how awesome it is might bring in some throngs?

    Dizziness While Descending - WTF?!

When I was in Nepal I had a "grid in gray" of hatch marks in my vision. A day later a major headache began, which I thought was HACE. My eye doctor said it more likely was a migraine, the hatch marks being a silent marker with no pain. The other thing I was thinking was sinus pressure. I get...

    Mahoosuc Notch

I have always done it as a day hike but with others so we could spot cars. Yes, there are a few squeezes but not of us felt uncomfortable.

The length of Rhode Island on The North South Trail, 4/23-4/27/15

Yes, indeed - you are inspiring. Thanks for the description of a long trail on this tiny ocean state.

Follow Up Story on Kate Matrosova

Having been knocked down on some FB sites for posting thoughts in line with what I'm seeing here, I am most appreciative of this group. I wondered about Pelchat's comment on the storm, and question whether he meant there would not have been huge amounts of snow as well? It has helped me that...

Keys lost on trail found with a tile

I just ordered a couple of tiles called TREK from an ad on Facebook. The batteries can be changed by the owner.

Keys lost on trail found with a tile

Lost my keys in the Rainforest Café last night, Burlington, MA. I think those tiles have a $25 annual fee on them, but right now that would have saved me a bit of money. Something to consider if you are prone to misplacinging something important.

    Saddleback and the Horn 3/14/2015

Saddleback is now charging a $10 user fee for the first time this year. The warming hut at the top of the Green Weaver (which is the trail the ski area recommends hikers on snowshoes use) is a great spot to have a snack either coming or going.

    Baby Formula As Trail Food

I've used some of the squeeze baby fruit, just to have a change, and found them fine.

Leaving only footsteps - think again: 100 meter 'death zone' on either side of trails

Driver 8 - love the line "we're nature's creatures, too" and the admonition that we have the capabilities to do the right thing.

    missing hiker - Lancaster, NH

The photo with the huge pack was from her FB page, not what she was carrying with her on Sunday. I've climbed Kilimanjaro and that doesn't qualify as a mountaineering experience, or anything close to it. It's a series of day hikes with a little extreme stuff here and there, but no use of...

Hikers Discover The Shocking Truth About November In The Mountains

Inexperienced hikers may not find all of the Piper easy to follow on the bottom. We came out a week before after dark and questioned our experienced selves both on the way in and on the way out. I'm hoping we all learn more about how well- or ill-prepared they really were. Am guessing this might...

Hiking Kilimamjaro - Help with companies

We went with Thompson Safari and were very happy. We chose them over some other companies because they had supported the travel arrangements for the IMAX film, and also because they are locally based. Have a wonderful trip. It's amazing to climb in that environment.

Ice Axe and hiking pole options made by Black Diamond

Not for me, because I have both and know how and when to use them, but I am seeing a lot of newby people asking. So, I wonder if anyone here has tried this setup in New England...

    The Nubble

Finally found time to go there. It was fun. Looking forward to many return trips. On yesterday's trip I honored my father's life. His funeral was Saturday and I took one of the green boughs the Masons used in their service and tossed it to the winds from the peak hoping to "Keep a green bough in...

Sural Nerve Inflamation and Boot thoughts?

Will plush pack boots work for you? Or, can you create a "donut" bandage around where the nerve is to help out? I've seen people make them out of closed-cell sleeping pads.

I was surprised the media disclosed the illness. I liked the image of "chasing him all over the mountain.

Rescue story in The Berlin Sun

Somewhere I thought I read it was a head injury and that she was dizzy. Did anyone else see that? I'm with those of you who have walked out with severe ankle pain. It wasn't fun but calling for a rescue was far from my thoughts.

Mt. Washington Argument Becomes a Rescue...

As Dug suggested at the top of this thread, it would be good to hear the full story, but that might now happen. Just as we don't know what has happened with the fight between the poodle and pit.

Poll: Which Of The 10 Essentials Do You Carry?

I carry all of those and more, depending on the day-hiking situation. I carry spare batteries, for example. And a headlamp plus a hand light. I have never used my compass. From what I see for pack sizes, I'd offer that many we see do not have what they would need.
