Rescue on Little Haystack-NHF&G insists that hiking solo is a "serious error".

Remember everyone, what you read, hear and are told though the news, from people at work, or the local bar or the weekend dinner party is NOT what really happened. Unless you were there, the truth lies somewhere else. News reports couldn't ring that bell any louder. Stop being the sucker.

    Sledders on Winter Trails

Hiking up Boott Spur, Down the Spur Link and sledding down the Sherburne Ski Trail on a warm sunny winter day is just about the best time possible. I used to try to do it yearly, but time isn't on my side lately.

Do hikers consume more beer than the average person?

Try being a hiker AND a musician. That makes beer drinking nearly a constant activity.

Blue Shirt Lost on Caps Ridge Trail

Yesterday, I dropped a pretty darn new Arc'teryx short sleeve shirt. It is dark blue, and I know it is up there, because a guy who came down while I was packing up told me that he had seen it. It was dropped just above where the first scramble is, beyond The Link junction. I love that shirt. It...

    Sunday storm ... power outages

Was driving out of Nash Stream and saw the wall of clouds. Got to Lancaster and there were trees down over power lines. Must have just been a very short gust that caused most of it.

    Backpacking Colorado Wilderness

I am flying into Denver mid June and have a completely open schedule for 16 days (two weeks and three weekends). I am going to plan on at least two, 3-4 night backpacking trips and then some day hikes and rock climbing. I would like some ideas for backpacks. I am not married to any particular...

    Grout Pond, VT in winter

Thanks for the replies. It is a hike in to Grout Pond itself, so I bailed on it this weekend since I was not prepared for the mile in, but I will treat it more like a backpacking trip and will be heading in sometime soon.

    Grout Pond, VT in winter

Hi. I was wondering if anyone has stayed at Grout Pond and if there is any information as to what the "scene" is like there during the winter. Is it a party place for locals? Is it quiet and lightly traveled? Is there a lot of snowmobile activity? I was thinking of going up maybe this weekend...

Please consider helping the Cohos Trail

It is complete. Was finished in 2012. Lots of changes for the better since 09, shelters, road bypass trails, better signage and blazing. I plan on doing it this year. There is talk that a new book and maps are on their way.

Please consider helping the Cohos Trail

Being involved with The Cohos Trail, I wanted to let the VFTT community know that the trail is seeking help. Sent to me from the Cohos Trail Association: I was wondering if you folks might also be able to spread the word of a fundraiser for the Cohos Trail in regards to continuing to add...

    Climbing Song Written on Monadnock

Nice tune! I write all the time when I am hiking. I bring a pen and paper. Seems like all those miles make my mind work in a creative way. Guess you are in California, or no? If you are local, do you play out?
