Taylor Farm in South Londonderry, VT (taylorfarmsvermont.com). Just outside the GMNF. Very near/on the way to Mad Tom Notch, Hapgood, and the Catamount. Also a great place to pick up local cheese :)
Their names are Augie and Bailey, and they get me out to the woods at 6:00 AM 5 days a week :)
(I'm pretty flabbergasted that so few people manage to do a mere 20/25 minutes of moderate activity per day, though)
There are quite a number of blaze-orange dog jackets on the market - also very helpful if you walk your dog at night - in case Thor isn't please with the idea of using his tail as a flag-pole. Even some decent ones to be had for cheap.
Hi Lost Dad - that would be helpful, thank you! I just sent you a pm.
The sections aren't kinked, fortunately. I'd have to unbend them to fit a sleeve over the top, although that might be worth doing if the metal seems weakened by the process. Thanks everyone for the input!
Our screen-house got flattened in high winds awhile back, resulting in some of the aluminum pole sections getting bent. They didn’t break, but the structure now leans quite a bit when we set it up.
Any suggestions for straightening out the poles a bit without busting them, or otherwise...
fwiw - the AMC has released a study it commissioned on the visual impact of the proposed project.
You can read their summary here:

The full report is here...
Zoinks, that's scary. I caught noro last winter, and I can't imagine being on the trail in that condition. It was all I could do to crawl out of bed for two days, and even after the worst was over I was still really weak and tired.
Thanks for the timely reminder as I'm getting ready to hike with the most recent addition to our pack. It's so easy to forget that our 4-legged hiking buddies don't always show us when they're hurt, or are being pushed too far or too fast, and that it's up to us to monitor them closely.

Right, but as i said, that doesn't mean people are letting Naudakumar off the hook and I'm not seeing anyone suggesting that he's above criticism - that just means we're gobsmacked at Kochman's reported actions. We do read about unprepared hikers all the time, People driving someone up and then...
Are we reading the same thread? Because I don't see people letting Naudakumar off the hook. Debating/discussing whether or not Kochman had any responsibility here is not the same as suggesting that Naukakumar had none. It doesn't have to be either/or.
So can I - but it's one thing to recognize that F&G won't organize a search party at 9:30 AM. It's another to keep hiking until 5:30 before you decide to investigate further, no? Taking him at his word (assuming that is his word in the UL comments), his clarification isn't helping him, imo.
This.
These guys made a decision to go hiking together. IMO, while I do think Pokey is responsible for his own preparation (or lack thereof) and his own decisions, Speedy is responsible for his selection of hiking partner, and for deciding to hike with someone in the first place.

Boston Globe article: Sisters bag 48 N.H. peaks with their mom
yay for parents who get their kids outdoors!
Meant to post this earlier in the week, but wanted to check with one of the subjects first (unfortunately access to the full article does require a subscription to the Globe)...
Well that just sucks  I don't even know the woman and I'm glad she got down ok.
I do sometimes wonder in some of these cases if "reckless" isn't just a euphemism for "out-of-stater" and "negligent" for "Bay-stater" It would be interesting to see a breakdown of what percentage of SAR...
I hear this a lot, but once you get beyond internet hyperbole, is there anything behind it? The one such lawsuit I've heard of, and seen documentation for, regarding outdoor activities in New England got nowhere (person died in Tucks and their family tried to sue because there wasn't...
