That's not even one cow fart....:ROFLMAO: (Glad to see you still lurking on here)

    2024: Leas snow than normal

Have there been studies (I'm sure there have been I just haven't seen them) that identify an actual temperature change value and equate it to x amount of sea level rise or there would be no snow left or whatever? When I was researching ice core samples I'm pretty sure I saw a reference to a...

Winter is on in The High Elevations

Was wondering what kind of a hit the snowpack took the past day or so. I may be able to get up there somewhere SAT but it's not looking like I'll be snowshoeing in waist deep powder any more.

    Homemade Insulated Gaiters Or Overboots

I have thought to try this but as you mentioned traction would trash the foam and I'm almost always wearing at least spikes in Winter. The cheap rubber rain overboots I ordered fit my Winter boots pretty well so I'm going to try a foam insole in them and see what happens.

They have used ice core samples to establish CO2 levels over the past 400,000 years or so to be between 180ppm and 280 ppm. That certainly predates our "modern" existence and any of the technologies we blame for CO2 emissions, which are now well above that level (about 420 ppm). I think any...

    Homemade Insulated Gaiters Or Overboots

I'm trying to avoid changing shoes and having the issue of putting cold or possibly frozen boots back on after. I think I'd give this option more thought if I was camping out but I typically don't take pictures where I camp (above tree line). I have some older Baffin down booties I got on...

    Homemade Insulated Gaiters Or Overboots

Indeed. Trail runners have solved the problem for most of the year. Can be comfortable as low as the 20's if there is no snow. The rest of the year is a challenge. I just ordered a pair of $16 rubber rain over boots in an XXL that have a wide top opening and a zipper (which could be an issue but...

    Homemade Insulated Gaiters Or Overboots

Yes, if I stand around for awhile. And as you may recall my feet get cold easy and I have a very hard time finding boots that fit properly. When I do sunset/night/sunrise photography it is not unusual for me to basically be in the same place for 1-2 hours, maybe more. Most times of the year it...

    Homemade Insulated Gaiters Or Overboots

That is basically what I was looking for, although I wish they were a bit more affordable. I see in the description that the insulation snaps to the inside of the gaiter. I suppose that is how I should proceed for a home made model. Thanks for the link.

    Homemade Insulated Gaiters Or Overboots

I discovered these many years ago when I started Winter hiking. Still have them bookmarked but they are overkill (in price at least) for what I am doing. The big thing that kept me from ever buying some was that they get made to an exact boot style and I have a horrible time finding shoes that...

    2024: Leas snow than normal

Yup. Billions and billions of tons of C02 dumped into the atmosphere for decades has no impact whatsoever but trace amounts of chemicals released from the tips of airplane wings? Full control of the weather and mass poisonings of people. :ROFLMAO:

    Homemade Insulated Gaiters Or Overboots

I've been looking around for awhile now for an overboot type product for Winter/cold weather when I make extended stops for photography. I don't need a full on overboot for hiking. It is just for standing around to go over existing boots. I figured an insulated gaiter might work and OR makes (or...

Search ongoing for 22-year-old missing hiker

Many moons ago I ran the delivery department at a major retailer of appliances and other products. I had a crew of 2 guys who routinely delivered 12-14 refrigerators a day in the city, often involving 2nd and 3rd floors in old apartment buildings with narrow staircases. They were two average...

    2024: Leas snow than normal

Bad choice of words. I am not arguing that point. I believe the scientific evidence. What I was trying to illustrate is that a lot of people make predictions based on the scientific evidence, which involves judgement based on what they know. When these predictions do not come to be, people...

    2024: Leas snow than normal

I think this is yet another problem with this issue. Predictions. We (or at least the majority) are in agreement on the underlying science but the conclusions/predictions we make on it can vary. So the science is valid. But the predicted outcomes, their probability and their timeline is the...

    Mt. Webster

The night I took that photo it was pretty windy. That is why clouds look so fuzzy in the picture. They were whipping by at about 30mph. I had to crouch down against the scrub on the edge of the outlook to keep my GoPro steady.

    Mt. Webster

That is a nice feature. This is a frequent choice for my "horrible weather practice" hike for that reason. I've been there in the pouring rain, in the dead of Winter and hitting spruce traps, night travel in high winds. There are a surprising amount of flowers on that trail at the right times of...
