NEW ENGLAND FAREWELL TO ALPINISTA and a Boston Beer night!!

Sorry I'm only now getting to a computer and having time to write a little thank you. I must say that you all are not only a great group of hiking buddies _ but amazing friends as well. I couldn't have asked for a better sendoff. I will miss those Boston beer nights -- but hopefully, the...

Sure, sure, go ahead and make us all jealous! :p We tough New Englanders can take it! ;) Good to see you and ChanelGirl got some great weather for exploring and relaxing!

    York Beach Sunrise...

I like that the ice-coated rocks make the foreground appear to be in black and white and then your eye is drawn to the background with that fire-y red sky. It's an awesome contrast. Not too jarring, just nice and subtle in the transition. For comparison purposes, I'd like to see the horizontal...

    Buttress Trail

Those are some amazing shots, Tim. What kind of camera did you use? I can't decide which one is my favorite, because they're all stunning. So, I gather the hiker you encountered was the one who mistakenly thought the Buttress trail was the Bootress Trail? that's priceless!

I'll see what I can do, LarryD. I'm on a first-name basis with the management ;) Perhaps our local law enforcement official, Bobby, can stage a raid to clear the place out??? :D

Hiking with Stephen King (Lafayette 1/27/2007)

Nice TR and shots, BigEarl! Despite the socked-in weather, it sure looked pretty up there. Glad you guys made the decision to turn around. Way to go! Jen-San: Hope your leg is feeling better...

    A grave matter

Ridgewalker: I like the sepia tone. I think that works well with this scene to give it a spooky feel. On occasion, I like using branches to frame a shot. In this particular instance, I think you would have ended up with more "texture" to the frame if you kneeled down to a lower level, and also...

Banff in NYC - March 6 and 7

Looks like it might actually be that Tuesday and Wednesday. If you go to the link for "film menu," the first section's date is off but the second one appears to be accurate in terms of matching the day of the week with the actual date. Sounds like a fun time. I've got it in my calendar!

2/8 - NYC Beer night and welcome Alpinista

No worries. I was actually just goofin' around. I don't think I'll be in any condition to do any climbing after a beer and after a long day of work!

    How non-hikers look at hikers

All the time! But I guess it's human nature to fear the unknown -- and non-hikers tend to fear the big unknown of the mountains. I've pretty much stopped engaging in any kind of lengthy discourse with most non-hikers because they can't really relate no matter what words I use to describe the...

2/8 - NYC Beer night and welcome Alpinista

I'm all over the Chelsea Brewery. Maybe we can hit the climbing walls there after a few pints! (I'm assuming it's at the same place as Chelsea Piers???) ;)

Which Mountain to die on (was: Just curious)

Speak for yourself! ;) Thankfully, I come from very strong stock who live well into their 90s, with all their faculties, and end up dying peacefully in their own beds at home. No drool in my gene pool! :p

Lost Hiker on Mt Lafayette - FOUND!

All I can say is "wow"...that is truly amazing. I'm glad he had that minus-30 bag with him, impressed and amazed. I hope he has the courage to talk about his experience. It will be a fascinating story to hear and to learn from it. And at the end of the day, I hope he gets through this...

Has anyone thru or section hiked the IAT in Quebec? Anyone interested?

Freddy: How long would it take? Now that I'll no longer be in a job where I'm on call 24/7, I'd be interested in tagging along for a week or so at least. Et aussi, je parle francais! :D

Lost Hiker on Mt Lafayette - FOUND!

A story in the Nashua Telegraph says that the first thing the rescuers told this hiker when they found him was that the Patriots had lost. Now, that's just plain cruel!
