    Ktaadn

Hiked up Abol, down Hunt on Labor day a few years ago. Bluebird skies and no bugs. Slightly below freezing at start, but in 50s by the time I got to Baxter peak. Another trip on October 1 was not so nice, with wicking fog, heavy winds, rain and no views (& it snowed that night, after our hike).

Mont Jacques Cartier – Parc National de Gaspésie (Quebec)

I did the Mont Albert loop 2 summers ago, there were still snow patches. Spectacular views. Also did Mont Jacques Cartier last summer. Nice day, but no Caribou. The bus driver scared us more than the hike. LOL. Nice pictures, BTW.

Climate Change Threatens Ski Industry, Leaving Slopes Bare

IMHO, it's not a hoax, glaciers have been retreating since the end of the last ice age (10-12 thousand years ago). The issues are around whether human activity is accelerating the process, and if so, by how much.

IDEA: Hike/Gathering in each northeast state

Saddleback (& the Horn, maybe) might be a good idea for a Maine hike. it's about 2K elevation gain from the skihill parking lot, gets you above treeline (onto a section of the AT), has good bailout options down the ski trails, and can be approached from more than one direction.

Let's bee honest and tell the truth.

I voted in both categories, but found nothing that exactly fit my abilities, so I chose the closest. For example, I summitted Washington on Saturday from Pinkham Notch, climbing over 4,000 feet in elevation, but only 8 or so miles round trip (pls correct me if this is incorrect). I liked the...

Canadian Rockeies - Banff Area Ideas and Guide Recommendations

Moraine Lake is spectacular, I did it in February, and am sure it would be equally good in summer. Johnston Canyon is good as well, much shorter and maybe suitable for a family hike.

Pack the raingear for a possible surprise visit from Cousin Sandy next week

Also, it's possible (depending on the track) that the counterclockwise circulation will pull down a bunch of cold air on the backside of the system, making the texture of the later precipitation questionable.

more New England mountain lion rumors

CBC article - June 14, 2012 Quote from this article (http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/story/2012/06/14/tech-cougars-growth-midwest.html): "One male cougar made its way as far as Connecticut, where it was hit and killed by a vehicle."

    Wolf killed in New Brunswick

I can't refer to any article in particular, except this one where a New Brunswick Zoologist refers to "...number of confirmed wolves in Quebec, south of the St. Lawrence...". Unless he is referring to the Eastern Townships, the Gaspe (since it is more mountainous and remote) seems to be a...

    Wolf killed in New Brunswick

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/story/2012/05/08/nb-wolf-dna-confirm.html Pure wolf. No coyote or dog DNA in this one. Possibly came across the ice from the Gaspe (Chic-Chocs, maybe).

1000 pound Hood ornament for 2000 pound Honda Civic - Near moose hit

Saw one on Moose Alley (between Rangeley and Stratton) on the Easter weekend. Fortunately, it was just standing there, and ran away when I stopped.:D I got an extremely poor picture of it running away (hind end shot), but haven't downloaded it from my camera yet. It was certainly tall enough...
