Seeking help in locating unique architectural styles in New England

Check out Lambert Packard. He designed buildings all over New England, including he Fairbanks Museum in St. J and Rollins Chapel in Hanover. I know he designed many more than that, but off the top of my head, those two come to mind. He'll show up on a google search. Generally, his buildings are...

    Cougar Photographed in W. NH

Regardless of the veracity of this particular photograph, if you look at a "dots map" of confirmed sightings outside of their established range since 1990 (easy to find online), it looks like it is a matter of "when" not "if" they will be back here in large enough numbers to have the Northeast...

trying to find the name of a book

Happy to help. One word for you to think about. Disturbances. Differences are caused by disturbances. Natural events (wind, flood, hurricane, fire, etc), human-caused events (tilling, pasturing, logging, fire etc.). I am still a newbie to all this stuff, but learning about it has made walking...

trying to find the name of a book

Tom Wessels also has a companion field guide called "Forest Forensics" which is kinda neat. If you ever get the chance to see him give a talk on "Reading the Forested Landscape" do it. You'll never look at the New England landscape the same afterwards.

Norovirus on At in Western Maine

There were notes from the Caretaker in the log books at both Full Goose and Speck Pond that they had noted a serious increase in hikers being sick in the days preceding my visit two weekends ago, so it is in the Mahoosucs, not to say it is isolated to that area.

Norovirus on At in Western Maine

Yup. Met a bunch of afflicted folks while in the Mahoosucs two weekends ago. Northbound and southbound folks seemed to be affected in equal measure. Didn't get much sleep either night due to the noise.:( Also was in fear for my own GI health and well being, since I shared some "hiker's wine"...

a nice day on Mt. Washington

Amazing. After my first up close experience with a black bear, the thing I remembered most, was how light their snouts are as compared to the rest of them. Thanks for sharing your ramblings with us!

A multi-generational trip report, or foxes, chippies and hares, oh my!

A while back I traded a few emails with Ed O'Leary at VT State Parks about my great-grandfather, who was the first caretaker at Maidstone State Park. Little did I know it would end up on their website! http://vtstateparks.blogspot.com/2012/03/great-grandfathers-legacy-in-maidstone.html

40 axes!? wow! You'll appreciate this story! When I was walking on davis path for the birdwatch thing a couple weekends back, there were some VERY LARGE CHIPS that obviously the chopper was quite proud of, as they were displayed along the trail propped up in trail-side trees for all to admire...
