    Pemi Wilderness Bridge Removal Project

This directly from the scoping letter "A field inspection of the suspension bridge in June 2008 concluded that the wood components of the bridge, with the exception of the towers, have deteriorated and need to be repaired or the bridge should be closed." So, were the towers in good shape or...

Zealand - Bonds Snow on Halloween

To show an example of the difficulty of answering this so far in advance and the variable weather mentioned above, a video from a 10/29 hike and 11/13 of Osceola October 29, 2006 Video On Osceloa Summit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YxrQQ69Iq8 Two weeks later, picture of same spot- looking...

Best restaurant for post-hike dinner in Whites

I'll second Mr. Pizza in Gorham. Decent prices, good menu and tasty food. And Jazzbo had one huge Margarita for about 3 dollars- but wasn't driving...;) Always enjoy the burgers at the Woodstock Inn....

Almost famous - sapblatt and LarryD make the paper

Nice job guys! It looks to me like Larry is about to deliver "THE JOKE" to the park director. Or maybe just asking for directions? I think its excellent you visited such a far reaching part of the park.

    Allagash Light (part one)

Excellent report and pix, thanks. We were in Baxter on the day you got there and met a couple of men who were heading up there- also mentioned the low water. Sounds like a great trip.

    Pemi Wilderness Bridge Removal Project

Totally agree. When we last crossed this bridge I was hanging on due to the sloping and greasy surface... http://tuco.smugmug.com/gallery/3485010#196241880_P29t7-L-LB

    Pemi Wilderness Bridge Removal Project

Not really sure where they are planning to look at, but seems like taking down a bridge to rebuild down the river seems wasteful. Probably not a real chance, just a response to a comment. As you say Dave really no need at the boundary... The .7 miles of the trail area will be closed to then be...

    Pemi Wilderness Bridge Removal Project

I just don't see a wilderness. And IMO, unnatural entities provide access all over the Pemi- trails. If you (the general you) read the end of the comment section it mentioned possibly reviewing if a bridge could be built outside the "Wilderness" area. How funny would that be- take this...

Una dogger- thanks. Could have kept taking pictures, every step and change of weather brought new amazing views. And yes, list-less hiking, I can now appreciate that.:) Only problem is another 12 months till a return??

    Adventures in Baxter State Park

All been said- great trip- great group and amazing park. Two years running our trip has exceeded expectations, I can't say anything better than that. Thanks Jay (and yes, the Traveler Loop is a must) et al- the 19 additional peaks in VT and Maine were almost to a trip all amazing adventures...

    12,000 Ossippee acres closed

Jason, your discussion points are well articulated. I think in some way you are preaching to the choir- I'd guess every person who reads this thread feels the same way about the land and its preservation- just a guess but not a stretch. I think everybody really has ultimately positive goals...

    12,000 Ossippee acres closed

The sign on the right is what it is. I didn't see anything in the agreement TB sent me (thanks) that discussed parameters around what steps had to be taken to close the land. Maybe its in the Stewardship Plan, maybe its just grey and you have to deal with it. Sign on the left makes me think...
