In my experience/observation I've rarely seen a teenager using poles in my 30-40 years of hiking.

This is not a comment on this story of an 18 and 20 yo brother/sister who needed rescuing, but is a question on the use of poles - I wonder at what age people begin to see the advantages poles give you, and tend to start using them regularly? 40's? 50's? Older?

These arguments serve no good purpose other than to get people pissed off at others. Nobody is going to have their opinion changed. Nobody. Couldn't agree with you more.

This might be a simple fix. The G12 has a connector bar. Take the crampon apart, and notice that the front has two slots thru which the bar is positioned. Take them apart, and place the bar thru the rear slot only, and then attach the heel piece. You will have created a noticeable hinge.
