    Its Orange Season again

Per Google, "As of today, there are 11 states that have restrictions of some sort. Four states ban hunting on Sunday altogether. They are Delaware, Massachusetts, Maine and Pennsylvania. Three states allow Sunday hunting on private land; those are South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia."...

For all those that hike with their dogs...

The article I read said the dog was a Jack Russell.

    Huntington Ravine Rescue

Thanks goodness for the SARs staff. They must have been really hammered by the time they got back to Pinkham.

    Glen Ellis Scenic Area Closure

"I never understood Glen Boulder as a reasonable option for Isolation. Not sure why you'd want to climb a 1,000 ft+ more than you have to on a really rough trail, give up that gain and then reclimb an extra 1,000+ ft again to descend that rough trail to go back. Just to avoid river crossings?"...

Petition to change the name of Mt Washington

IRRC, the Washington in Colorado is actually Lady Washington. Nice hike with a great view of the Diamond on Longs east face across the valley.

    Devil’s Path plus Hunter 9/7/23

Brings back memories. I did them in Oct, 01. Drove down from VT and did one that afternoon and the other the following morning. Drove home. Nice hikes, but nothing heroic.

How does Owl's Head in White Mountains look like an actual owl's head?

I for one really have to strain to pretend there's an Owl in there somewhere. All I know is that when I'm at Black Pond and look north I know that some refer to that cliff area as Owls Head.

    Mt. Mansfield route

I like doing an up and back on the Sunset Ridge trail beginning at the Underhill State Park. The best views are on the way down,

    Canines at altitude.

I hiked Telescope Peak a few times, and to Trail Camp on Whitney several times with my Newf. He was an experienced hiker and eventually got to the point where he let me know his limits.

    Studded Trail Runners

Well, as least no one has (yet) complained about crampons scraping the rocks.

    Studded Trail Runners

Some hikers wear boots with thick lugs - that type of tread probably moves more dirt around than microspikes.

    Mittersill

Several years ago (at least 10+) a small group of us hiked up Millersill. Approx 2/3 of the way up the trail forks to the right, and we encountered a couple rangers at the junction. We were prepared for a scolding for hiking a closed trail, but not the case. They were very pleasant and...

    Mittersill

IIRC, we has a group of about 45 who trekked up to eat cake and celebrate. It was fun to watch Brutus - he knew all the excitement was about him and made it his mission to greet as many as possible, The Cannon staff was tolerant of our party - one of our crew (Cath) had brought a large cake up...

    Mount Baldy accidents

I did Baldy several times after leaving NE for a few years to live in SoCal. It's a big mountain (10K') and is the high point along the ridge ringing the LA basin to the north. While there are several trailheads for Baldy, the most common one is Manker Flats (6K') on Mt Baldy Road. There's a...
