    Mt. Whitney success

TMax, Jay H, a 3500 club friend and I did a 4 day, 41 mile backpack coming in from Cottonwood Pass with an eventual summit of Mt Whitney on July 10th. It was an awesome hike with spectacular views. We'll provide more info when we get home...typing is slow from my phone.

hiking and non-hiking friends (moved from Q&A)

I also mostly see my hiking friends since I seem to be obsessed with hiking. I feel like I have built some great friendships in recent times through the hiking community. I try to do things with my other friends during the week to keep my weekends open for hiking. One of the reasons for...

Ben Nevis - Scotland (UK's Highpoint)

Sounds wonderful Ed! I'm jealous. I keep hearing how great it is over there. I'm just going to have to get over there one of these days.

    Barefoot on Street and Nye

I love going barefoot, however I have not tried hiking that way. I spent most of by summers barefoot up until about 10 years ago. I don't do it as much any more though...I think because of the scare of ticks and Lyme. Thanks for reminding me to take the time to feel the earth on my feet. I...

    Sawteeth 6/11/06

Well, lack of views on the summit just means you have to go back again...oh darn :D ! You're getting so close to that final 46! Jay, I was in the city for the weekend... taking my sister on a views and brews hike on Saturday! .... and also got the nice weather. Sunday afternoon I hiked...

    Brews and NO views

Nice TR Pete. Too bad you didn't get any views. Garfield is an awesome peak. It was my very first 4K peak in the Northeast so it is kind of special for me. I have been up there a few times, however, I have yet to have a brew at the summit. I guess I'll have to go back :D !

I have Jay, Big Jay, and Nancy left.

    Stratton, Dorset 6/3-4

I wanted to test out my tent in the rain. This weekend was certainly perfect for that. I hiked in the Stratton Pond Trail Friday evening. The sign to the shelter was very tempting. If tenting had been allowed near the shelter, I might just have stayed there and set my tent up nearby and...

Footwear for dayhikes in heavy rain

This weekend I hiked Friday and Saturday with a pair of Lowa's (Klondikes) and they took a long time to really get wet. It wasn't until the 2nd day that I started sloshing. However, once wet, they keep that sloshing feeling. On Sunday I wore Garmont Nagevi's which are a low light shoe. They...

    Gray 6-3-06

Oh Jay, I like that. I could have used him where I was hiking in VT too. Although, I didn't have spots quite that deep. It sure was a wet weekend. Terri, glad you got Gray out of the way. You're on the home stretch now!

Breadloaf, Wilson & a Long Trail hike - June 3-4

Nice TR. I was in the area too and got to experience all the rain over the weekend. I'll have to post a report too. I saw your name in the cannister on Dorset.

    Petersburg Pass, Saturday

Perhaps you could plan a TCT end-to-end for the gathering. This event is sponsored regularly by the Taconic Hiking Club. They issue a patch for completing the 29 miles, but I believe only during their sponsored events. Perhaps something could be coordinated with them. I did it a few years...

Balsam Lake and Graham - Wild Weather!

Actually, HarryK and I had all of that when we hiked Hale on my birthday. It seemed appropriate to have hail on Hale. We got all of that, including 2 rainbows on our walk out. They were predicting potential hail yesterday when we hiked Hale again, but we didn't get it.

    Solitude in the Sewards

Sounds like a nice day Ed. Gee, you walked out in the rain??? That sounds familiar :-) I did Baldpate while TMax did Old Speck on Saturday. We only had a few sprinkles while we were hiking and then the sun came out when we stopped for the brew. Then on Sunday when we did Hale, the rain...

Mt. Marshall (a walk in the rain) 5/13/06

Yes, the cascades were beautiful! The last time I did Marshall it was just a small brook. I thought that was beautiful with the moss on the rocks. It was nice to have a different experience. And you are also right about the leantos!

Mt. Marshall (a walk in the rain) 5/13/06

It was indeed a wet weekend! However, I'm glad I went. It was a pleasure to be out there in good company in spite of the rain and mud.

Thanks to Matt I have to post for 2 reasons...1) to remember to thank Matt for taking over my hike on Saturday so I could go on this trek and 2) so that Sponge can't end the posting on this thread :-)
