We are headed into the Nahmankanta Public Reserve Lands/Debsconeag Wilderness this weekend for 5 days and may update the trail conditions for this thread. It will be my 2nd trip to explore the Debs :-)
Note the road from Kokadjo listed in DCs report is no longer passable from Medalawisa to...
I've actually only followed that rule from Loj, not the Garden :-)...however friend in question works for DEC as a field biologist in the Southern Daks and her dog goes to work with her, so I'm certain she will follow the rules as they apply :-)
I have a friend who is planning on hiking Big Slide via the Brothers with her dog.
It's been quite a few years since I've done that hike, and I don't recall any issues.
Can anyone confirm that?
TIA
Yes, or mushroom or toad or a tossed chocolate bar .... But in nearly 30 years of hiking with dogs fortunately this was the first incidence like this, thankfully.
Just a quick heads up - yesterday while hiking Old Speck one of my dogs (Gem) ate something on the trail, and I had to evacuate her as she became wobbly on the summit. The vet in Bethel suspected a neurotoxin-- she is OK thankfully.
Just a friendly heads up to dog owners hiking in the area (AT...
I've read on some other online discussions that she wasn't carrying a map? Can anyone corroborate??
So sad that the journal seems to describe her as simply lost and waiting for help???
Without a map, she wouldn't have known that walking downslope just about anywhere in that area would lead...
Have wondered how Catalano's can stay in business with its $14 sandwiches.
For quick eats, Wayne's in N Woodstock makes awesome sandwiches - they are huge and not $14!
Had to have been a tough year for all TM businesses' with very little snow for snowmobilers.
I think Ember's closed as well earlier this winter, rumor has it was due to divorce. :-(
Once again, very little to eat in Twin Mountain!
Huge congrats to Ed! I remember first meeting him on Mt Monroe in April 2007. It was my first time hiking the Southern Presis and Ed was hiking solo and stopped to chat with our group. Someone said, "he's done the Grid, he's like one of only a handful of people". That was the first time I had...
I saved the Bonds for last so I could finish the 67/48/111 all on W Bond. It was a beautiful early autumn day in 2008. I hiked it just with my husband and my dog as a LW>Z Rd traverse. I'm not into big parties :)
Well it seems everyone else has added so my other finishes were:
W48 Adams and...
Thanks, Guys -- both are on the short list of upcoming hikes. FYI, Rocket21 mentioned to me this morning that many trailheads in the Squam Range are currently posted as closed due to early onset of mud season.
I'll update Monday if I have any more news on that....
In summer you can add a Bonds out and back to add extra bang to your peakbagging buck. One of my favorite hikes and no carspot! I chose up N Twin down FW. It's a soft way to end a big hike and gets the water crossings out of the way first thing.
Great report!!!
