Hiking in the extreme cold this weekend?

Looks like I picked a really good weekend to sign up for overtime at work. Sunday is Valentine's Day and we have opted to go movies like an old married couple. :-) If I were hiking tomorrow I'd probably stick to something smaller and south of the Whites. I recall hiking S Twin and Galehead...

So what are your early winter "bonus" hikes ?

I've noticed alot of the local motels in the Whites requiring a two night stay now, too.

So what are your early winter "bonus" hikes ?

As of today, MichaelJ and myself, nor Sappblatt, HikerBob, and BobnGeri no longer have campers in Twin Mountain. Although the camper-in-situ is a good alternative, ours just got too old to maintain so when our 2nd camp ground changed ownership, we decided to sell it. I'm considering a micro...

The Year in Review - Peakbragging 2015!

I only hiked 15 NH4ks in 2015, due to competing athletic interests and also recovery from surgery which kept me indoors for the most part during winter 2015. But I'm grateful to have gotten out there and made some great memories. Congrats to all on your 2015 accomplishments!

So what are your early winter "bonus" hikes ?

I try to use mental tricks to motivate if I can, one dog has only the Carters for NH48, the other dog is at 34/48 for round 7, its usually easy to find a peak/peaks that can satisfy more than one "list"...still that three hour drive each way...I don't know how I've gotten this far!!! :) At this...

So what are your early winter "bonus" hikes ?

I hear you! I really dislike taking a reductionist approach to "what will I hike"...I guess its x, y, or z because its the month of X and I need......last winter I had to curtail nearly all of my outdoor activities of any duration due to post-surgical rehab (including skiing, gasp!)...now I'm...

So what are your early winter "bonus" hikes ?

Contentedly stating that I have no "winter needs" but still adding that I happily got to OH in December before conditions set in (and even happier that it was a friend's 2nd round finish that had OH hanging for 14 years!). No shame in it! :-)

New England 100 highest (ss) Winter finish on Moosilauke 3-17-13

This is an older thread but I'll throw in my congratulations as well -- adding in that all that winter driving from Shrewsbury certainly upped the ante as well!

New England 67 in 1 winter season

I've read that there is a crew up there working on some of the NEHH/overlapping 67 peaks this week, might want to rethink your plan and include Maine on the front end while the weather's good and trail conditions are known :D Some updates to trail conditions can be seen at...

    Hiker Rescue in the Pemi

If I'm reading Stinky Feet's post correctly, I think the route that he was unfamiliar with was the Black Pond BW, not a trail or described in the AMC guide, and not his intended route, but their route as they related it to him?
