    Dog Grooming Questions

Aw, don't feel bad! Tim makes a great point about using grooming time as an opportunity to have some QT with Bud and it could become something he looks forward to. Pemi loved being groomed, it's like a big love fest for her. :-)

    Hiker Rescue in the Pemi

The same arguments were being made when GPS became popular, "are you really bushwalking if you use a GPS". People are at their free will to determine what gear or devices they use. I'm very happy to have the SPOT for the sole purpose of reassurance to my loved ones that if I were in danger...

    Hiker Rescue in the Pemi

Me too...me too. You can't really do anything other than what we do, give some informative/non judgemental advice, and try to size up from what they say and what you see visually and hope for the best!

    Hiker Rescue in the Pemi

I've fortunatley never had to. But, if I were laying soaking wet, exhausted, and shivering uncontrollably in a tent due to my own lapse in judgment and conundrum, YES I'd push that button! (However I'd consider one of my text message options that alert a few locals to my whereabouts and signal a...

    Dog Grooming Questions

Absolutely. Bud's got alot of coat like Terra. Sometimes I just use a regular hairbrush like a vent brush. If you give him the once over every few days he should stay brushed out. The "back pants" seem to matt up from time to time, I just cut out the ones I can't easily brush out. Once a...

    Hiker Rescue in the Pemi

I've used a SPOT for a few years, and I don't think I'm a bonehead. :D Most of us have done stupid stuff in the woods....hike long enough and you will have memories of "when I did that and BOY was I lucky". What separates an epic "holy cow" learning experience from serious trouble is...

    Winter nh 48 canine finishers

That's awesome Heather and Kali! It takes a special timing to achieve that with one dog.

    Dog Grooming Questions

Sierra you may want to consider something for Bud since his recent "puppy cut" which removes the water repellent and insulating guard hairs of the natural aussie coat. While many dogs may not need a coat in most weather, all can benefit from a coat or blanket on the car ride home. :-) Aids...

    Hiker Rescue in the Pemi

I guess it all depends on whether or not they think considering those crossings after days of rain is reckless :p <tongue in cheek> Having just been out to OH about a week ago, the larger crossings are not my cup of tea at even 150cfs on the Pemi gauge.

Can anyone tell me the current status of the bridge at the start of the Jewell Trail, please? I have heard reports it may be out? Thanks! Sabrina

Hiker missing in NH Whites - Unfortunate ending (Claire Marie Cocuzzo)

She would have likely stopped at Galehead Hut both out and back -- surely someone saw her there. Hope she is found soon, thankfully the weather has been good!

    Mt Clinton Trail

We passed the USFS work crew yesterday on their way out of Rocky Branch and the shelter there has been dismantled. So maybe that means now they will shift some effort toward the Dry River Wilderness?

    Herdpath Beta for Wildcat

I just did an out and back of D>A via Polecat friday. A few years back I was shown a bushwhack that started just before the reclimb of D and came out on Polecat. Friday I checked out a small herd path in that area and followed it a short distance through a small campsite and past a single piece...
