    Hiking Footwear "Issues"

So sorry to hear this. I was were keeping our fingers and paws crossed that they might work. Keep trying different hiking shoes of all kinds. Trial and error. Eventually I have faith you will find some system that works for you. Keep us posted.

New grist for the SAR debate from Brown University study

I had written a reply but it didn't go thru. Will write an abbreviated version. I know F&G gets reimbursed but if they cannot support the operation, it has to be dealt with. We might not agree with the resolution but it is what it is. I like the "insurance" plan but that might never come to...

New grist for the SAR debate from Brown University study

I don't suggest anyone do this but someone mentioned wanting to organize their own rescue and it seemed like a possible solution. In that situation you would not have to be accountable to anyone. Frankly I don't think we need to worry much about someone from the inner city not following...

New grist for the SAR debate from Brown University study

T This was a thought I had when I was writing my post. Say you make a decision to hike our own hike, in every sense of the word, this might be a great option. It could be the best possible solution for both sides. Perhaps not for everyone but it certainly is something to consider.

New grist for the SAR debate from Brown University study

I wonder if they have a problem in our town with people not calling the FD for an ambulance when they need one. We have to pay the entire cost ( insurance or out of pocket) if we don't sign on yearly for a membership. It's $40 annual fee. Covers the family. It would be interesting to have that...

    Hiking Footwear "Issues"

[/URL] OK my friend....this is what is left. Men's 8.5 for both. Lowa and Garmont's. Hope you are not in a woman's 6. As you are aware, if they are a little big big, you could try bigger socks, and perhaps add the gel sole to the already existing inner sole of the boot. It might work for...

    Hiking Footwear "Issues"

Gaiagirl...will check the garage today to see what I have left. Have you considered a gel sole in your boot to cushion your feet? Just take the original in the boot out to make room. Sometimes whey we start adding things to our boots, we need to up the size. I am now in a men's 10 but the...

    Hiking Footwear "Issues"

Agree with Doug. Custom made orthotics are very expensive but the negative impact on your body when you have lousy feet is huge. Your hips, knees, back, plantar will suffer. Plantar fascitis will come knocking and perhaps tibial tendinitis, etc. I would recommend trying out many different...

    Hiking Footwear "Issues"

I have a wide forefoot and narrower heel. I also sport very bad feet and wear orthotics. Cannot walk without them. Turns out Scarpa's work very well. I wear a men's size and they fit like gloves. Super comfy. Moraine is on sale at Moosejaw for $166...

Our Hiking Community has lost one of its best canine friends tonight

I am so sorry and very sad to hear of your loss. I extend to you my deepest sympathy. I would like to share this little poem with you. Over the years it helped me find comfort and I hope it blesses you in the same way. It was written by "Quakers" with the help of her human, Elaine Seamens...

Jeremy Jones - snowboarder and mountaineer

About the same time we are reading Honnold's. That being said perhaps the Mountain Gods will spare them both. Way back we used to have an official "Ski to Die Club." It was defined like this "YOU FALL, YOU DIE!" The more things change, the more they stay the same.
