This would be a good one to go along with "not being written up." "Please-please! I can't afford a rescue!"

What quotations or phrases keep you going in difficult outdoor situations?

Great thread! :) I have many but these two will always be way at the top of the list. "It's not what happens to you in life, but what you do with it that maters." Spoken to me by Abby, OB leader at VOBS. It was perfect timing and I will never forget it. The one below hangs on my wall...

Peak Experiences: Danger, Death, and Daring in the Mountains of the Northeast

I really enjoy most books regarding mountain adventures, cycling, and preparing for and racing the Iditarod. I really love books about people who live far removed from civilization, and hike or bike outrageous distances. I learn so much from all of them be they life threatening topics, or...

    women's winter hiking boot suggestions

I no longer pay attention to anyone who says this to me. I have spent and wasted so much money buying shoes that do not fit because I believed them. I sometimes wear different socks for different shoes but I learned the hard way to make my own decision about what fits and what doesn't. They...

    women's winter hiking boot suggestions

ELLEN...did you try the Garmont in men's size? I up to a 10.5 men's this year because of the new orthotics. I have door knob size bunions and hammer toes so I really need the width in my boots. Wish it would snow.

Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) has been sold...

Even thought it's many miles away, it appears I will be taking many more trips to REI. I can only hope that Adventure Outfitters stays in business. It remains to be seen but I cannot imagine "Bob's Mountain Store" being anything like EMS.

Could this the the solution to the SAR dilemma?

Tom...thanks for sharing. I have a friend in vet school in Australia and she recently took a trip to New Zealand. I got this off her site. The "bush" is indeed unforgiving. Do you happen to have a link to that particular SAR website? :)
