    Madison for Thor's 1st Northern Presi 3-20-11

Thor and I had spent Saturday enjoying a hike up Osceola and the comradery of the group celebrating Eric Rathburn's Grid Finish. I knew that Sunday was to be the pick of the weekend and the last day of winter so I was contemplating doing an open summit that did not require much effort like...

    The NEXT 48x12 Finisher!

Congratulations Eric! It was a fun day to be out and share the trail with everyone. Glad I didn't have to work and the weather treated us all to a beautiful day. Thor & I enjoyed seeing everyone and a special thanks to whomever left dog bones at Livermore Trailhead!;) Here are a few pics from...

Where the Hale is the WF Trail?

Yor, Does this mean it originally had its own crossing before the 2nd crossing and the steep bank the current herd path ascends on the bend? Never noticed any wires. Are there still a few poles like Garfield's tractor road? Interesting what you see sometimes when you look harder!;)

Where the Hale is the WF Trail?

Since I don't seem to ever get much faster I can often tell where to make a turn by how long I have been on the trail for distance and where it would seem logical for the path to head up a gentle ridge. Certainly helps if you start day dreaming!

Where the Hale is the WF Trail?

Tom, When I went on New Year's Day I had researched a bit and one of the best sources of topo and GPS tracks continues to be Rocket21's site. I followed some tracks up the banking where it should have been and they seemed to end in a maze of CC ski tracks. I hiked up to the last crossing in case...

    Wildcats A->D

Tim, You should turn back if its impassable! Not like these idiots that keep making routes off-trail around the obstacles! Seriously, sometimes mountains are made of mole hills! Chances are if someone is on a hiking forum and has plenty of trail time in they know what is proper for the trail...

Where the Hale is the WF Trail?

Up the bank on the east midway between the two crossings that are skipped. Usually signs of skiers coming down off the bank there and it is steep depending on where you climb it.

    48x2, 48+2 Hike up Cannon Feb 20th

Looks like I will be leaving from Lafayette place around 7:00 -7:30am if I want to be sure of getting up top at noon. On the steeps I am about 30% over book time with a heavy pack. If I run behind schedule I may skip Northeast Cannonball and do it during FSB. I plan on bringing the grill and...

    48x2, 48+2 Hike up Cannon Feb 20th

Mike, Guess I misread the Franconia State Park info - "Pets are permitted in the designated dog walks near the Tramway and Flume parking lots only, not in the campground. " Thanks for the other advice as well! I don't plan to approach by High Cannon with him and was more concerned about coming...

Rocky Raccoon 100 Mile Endurance Run: February 5-6, 2011

Larisa, Thanks so much for sharing this! It's an incredible, inspirational account of the three of you doing something amazing and being selflessly committed to each other and doing it in style! Just amazing to imagine that pace for so long knowing the injuries you and Rob have overcome recently!

    48x2, 48+2 Hike up Cannon Feb 20th

Thor and I hiked Carrigain yesterday so this will be able to be a 48x2 hike as well. It's not a grid finish or single season 48 or any other major accomplishment but it feels great to have summited well over one hundred peaks since finishing the NH48 4K list two years ago. I'm planning to go up...

    48x2, 48+2 Hike up Cannon Feb 20th

Right now I'm just trying to get to the weekend and come up with a chunk of stamina to go out to Carrigain! Poor timing on flu-like symptoms the last few days and coughing so hard all my stomach muscles are pulled and hurt! Yeah, I know that's a big area to hurt!;) Anyone up for Carrigain this...

Saquatch makes an amazing recovery! 10/4/10

That's great news Rob! Glad your healing has gone well and your race did too! 'round here if your a self promoter it's liking saying you're a glutton for punishment. I suspect you would have had to do the hundred in snowshoes on unbroken trail to be legit!;)

    48x2, 48+2 Hike up Cannon Feb 20th

I'm planning to finish round two of the NH48 on Cannon February 20th. I finished round one there on my 48th birthday so I thought it would be a great place to catch up to some friends again for my 50th which is actually on the 22nd. No need to bring gifts, just great to see friends anytime! I...

Tecumseh, from the Ski Area 2/6/11..Third Round finish for Sabrina and Terra

Nice TR and pic Sabrina! Congrats on round three to you and Terra! Maybe after his visit to the doggy doc she will put up with Thor a bit better. In the meantime I think the blue suit might scare him away!

    Winter Hiking Boots Recommendations

Can't say enough about how well I like the Salomons I got in December. Rated for -13F so somewhere between the 200 and 400 thinsulate which suits me fine. I like the metal loop they put in to hook your gaiters on and the fact that they protect the lower loops with a flap of leather. Nice...

Pierce and Ike with Alex and friends, 1-8-11

Sorry about the delay in posting anything! This was a great day out and Thor did pretty good except for the bridge and steeps coming off Ike! We had a great time seeing everyone out despite the storm warnings! Here are some of my pictures from the day...
