When does a memorial become trash in a backcountry setting?

One more comment and I'm through: The world isn't always black & white-it's OK to bend the rules a little once in awhile if no permanent harm is done- Let the first person who has never broken or bent the rules camping or hiking in the back country throw the first stone- for example- do you...

When does a memorial become trash in a backcountry setting?

I view this as unsightly trash and breaking all rules of LNT. Could it be removed immediately, please? Oh, and don't stop there. There are seven more just like it... KDT

When does a memorial become trash in a backcountry setting?

For my part I have picked up trash from one end of the Whites to the other and have always practiced LNT. This isn't trash, yet. When it is, it will be removed, if not before. As for the argument that it has nothing to do w/ the Whites, then what does Flags on the 48 have to do with the Whites...

When does a memorial become trash in a backcountry setting?

Just curious: How many who are reacting negatively to this have served, or lost someone who served? I find what Ray is doing a hell of a lot less offensive than using a magic marker to write Rastaman on every trail sign in the Whites which I have been looking at for years, or carving The Link to...

    Liberty Springs Tentsite / BEAR

Sad situation created by humans, seems to be a plague of one bear frequenting the back country sites. A fed bear is a dead bear. Kudos to you for helping the caretaker. I'll keep my comments about inexperienced yahoos invading the tent-sites being a bigger problem than bears in the back country...

When does a memorial become trash in a backcountry setting?

@Peaks, and for anyone else who may not know or may just be interested. There are very clear and concise laws governing the display of the American Flag, which many of us served under. http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/flagcode.htm KDT

Two new canine members completed their first NH 4000 footer

That sounds about right for the dogs reaction to the heat. The older dog probably took it a little easier than the young one. We have a young one that we walk and she would literally chase a ball until she dropped. She has the hardest time on the hot days as she overworks and will not conserve...

Two new canine members completed their first NH 4000 footer

Our little mountain dog just passed away. She had literally hundreds of happy, successful, leash-free mountain hikes on the 4k's and on many lesser mountains. I agree with all that has been said by others so far, but would emphasize taking things easy with the little one for a few more months...

    Hurricane Mtn, Conway NH 6/5/13

We bushwhacked this last fall from the Black Cap parking lot because the map at the kiosk showed a trail, which we didn't look hard enough to find. Once at the summit it was easy to find the trail and follow it back down. We found it an interesting hike and it was good to add a little extra to...
