Anyone notice a recent uptick in 4K list interest?

Not sure what has changed this year but I seem to be seeing a lot more references to 4K finishers on the various local news outlets. These finishers were probably mostly done last year with all the Emily Sotello press so all the finishers PR could just be hangover from last year. IN the last...

New proposed Landfill in Dalton NH

An update, the legislature or governor has voted down or vetoed stopping the project a few times but it looks like all the major candidates are against it. https://www.wmur.com/article/candidates-governor-landfill-dalton-61824/61162927 Casella Waste systems has been fire hosing money at...

    Appalachia Parking

Driving by this afternoon (Sunday), room in the parking lot but cars on the side of RT 2 to the west. There was one lone car to the east way down RT 2. My guess is it was hut guest who timed it poorly on Saturday (a great hiking day)

Let's be careful out there this week.

Its federal and state holiday this week, June 19th, and its not even officially summer yet but the forecast weather is going to be brutal this week even up north. $ days of 100 plus heat indexes are nothing to mess around with. My limited observations and looking at the water dashboard for the...

    EMS Sold -- Again

It comes down to chapter 7 versus chapter 11. Private Equity funds tend to be very good at stripping any and all value before throwing in the towel. In many cases they even setup the debt in a way that they get paid first out of any assets that are sold off. In the case of a business with a...

    Greetings

Welcome to VFTT. I will make my standard blurb that given that VFTT has been around for a very long time, that a lot of info is hidden away in past posts that go back 30 plus years. Google Site search seems to be the best way to find it. Make sure you are on google then type Site:VFTT.org...

    Appalachia Parking

Mid week it should not be a major issue. Its timing issue, 8 AM is bit early to get spots from folks staying at the hut heading down after breakfast. Dayhikers tend to fill in the slots from about 7 AM to 9:30 AM, the hut guests tend to head down Valley Way and get to the parking lot around 10...

Sawyer River Rd will be closed to vehicles for 2024 until further notice

No need to hike unless you were counting it for a list. ;) A bike would save a lot of work.

Mt Adams is Holy Mountain of 19 in world

You my have missed out in modern era the power of Mt Adams. My house looks over it about 6 miles away. I built in 1988 and for the first 10 to 15 years if there was a thunderstorm in the area, Adams seemed to be the center of it in the north country. More than few summer nights I could sit at...

Mt Adams is Holy Mountain of 19 in world

A general observation is I really do not mind thread resurrections, if its the same subject makes a lot of sense to just drag the old carcass out and keep going ;0 . Its also a reminder that VFTT is "ancient" by commercial internet standards, to bad the early database got lost but much of the...

AMC installing Starlink to the Huts

Thanks, not much load, just another panel or two and battery sized to carry a few days charge and the hut guests can pay $250 a night to have the wilderness experience when they occasionally look up from their screen ;)

AMC installing Starlink to the Huts

Any idea if you can run the Starlink directly on solar panels and if so how many watts?

AMC installing Starlink to the Huts

Thanks. Its probably in there but it would be interesting to see why the project was shut down as it has been for few months. Could be shut down due to some species like a bat.

AMC installing Starlink to the Huts

While looking through the SOPA list for info on the Glen Ellis Gravel Pit project (with no luck) I noticed that AMC is adding Starlink Antennas to the huts. Probably more efficient to process guest services online than over the radio. I wonder if they will set up Wi-Fi for the guests?. No doubt...

Reminder - NH Bike Weeks starts tomorrow

The BMW motorcycle crowd is definitely a different crowd than the typical bike week crowd. Still not a lot of cross over to the hiking crowd, but some BMW owners take the self-sufficiency role more seriously and campout with what they can carry on the bike. Taking a quick look at the BMW rally...
