Looking for difficult trails in the Whites

I just made a Facebook Page for the Terrifying 25. There have been a few requests for me to do so...so I did. :) It's brand-new and currently very basic...anyone who wants to join, do a Facebook search for "The Terrifying 25" and submit a request. It's a closed group to prevent spammers.

Looking for difficult trails in the Whites

Thanks - we just had a new finisher today - glad folks are having fun with the hikes. I plan on creating a T25 Facebook Page soon. Will post the link here when it's ready to roll. Should be done by Tuesday (it's on my to-do list for Monday).

    Terrifying Madison Gulf

Thanks, Bob - I'll update your comments on my site accordingly. Also need to add your comments on Desolation Trail - many thanks for your valuable contributions! Had someone notify me of their finish today, by the way. I should organize a T25 Facebook Page...will add it to my to-do list for...

    Tips for the new Dog

Great post (and great thread -- so much good info here!). While on the trail (and off, for that matter), dogs should either be leashed or within your sight and under strict voice command. This is basic common courtesy for other hikers. Your dog might be the friendliest dog around, but other...

Anyone have a dog that doesn't like to hike?

I know you asked for folks with large dogs to chime in. My dog is a small breed (border terrier), but here's my experience with him, FWIW. Assuming this isn't a physical/medical issue, then I would say yes, there are dogs that don't like to hike. Individual dogs have their individual...

    2012 Mt Kenya, Africa adventure

Welcome back, and congratulations. It was nice to follow your updates on Facebook while you were away. Looking forward to your Kilimanjaro report! The girls and I hope to hike that when Sage is legally old enough to go (she has to be 11, I think). Wonderful TR. Can't wait for the next...

Highpoint: Nevada. Boundary Peak, 13,140 feet. September 11, 2012

Thank you! Have a great time on the 26th! I didn't include this in my trip report, but there are multiple paths running through the sagebrush (animal trails). At every turn, take what looks/feels like the main one. That's what Alex did coming and going, and she led us strong and true...

    48 x 3 + 67 = 1 Incredible Day on Mt Carrigain - 9/29/12

Just read your excellent trip report. First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!!! :D :D :D (I cannot express how lame and bad I felt at not being able to join the celebration. I hope to see you both again soon. The girls and I have something we want to give you.) Second -- Nat is tough! I can't...

Highpoint: New Mexico. Wheeler Peak, 13,161 feet. September 6, 2012

The first group of guys we met on the summit had camped at Horseshoe Lake -- they said the area was beautiful. Herds of bighorn sheep milled about their site all evening and morning. They said the scenery was gorgeous and the hike in wasn't too difficult. One of the men showed me the route on...

Highpoint: Nevada. Boundary Peak, 13,140 feet. September 11, 2012

Thanks, Puma. Alex deserves the credit for getting us through the sagebrush. There were a lot of animal paths going every which way, but Alex could always figure out where we were supposed to go. That being said, on a clear day a hiker should be able to clearly see where he/she is supposed to...

Highpoint: New Mexico. Wheeler Peak, 13,161 feet. September 6, 2012

You did Bull-of-the-Woods Trail for the ascent, is that correct? That looked lovely from the summit of Wheeler; we could see it going over some other summits. It was such a nice day, we contemplated going down that route. That must have been hard work, going down to Williams Lake before there...

Our final highpoint of our 2012 trip out west. This one was tough! The following is an abbreviated version of what's on my blog. Accompanying pictures can be found here. ***** Trail Canyon route. About 8 miles roundtrip with 4200 feet of elevation gain. My main worry about Nevada's...

Highpoint: New Mexico. Wheeler Peak, 13,161 feet. September 6, 2012

Puma, the old ascent up Wheeler must have been horrid. The old scree path is still there...I imagine it wasn't much fun to hike. We're quite grateful to the Forest Service for the outstanding new trail! As for mountain lions...if I hadn't had kids with me, then I wouldn't have worried so...

Highpoint: Colorado. Mt. Elbert, 14,440 feet. September 3, 2012

Thanks, Red Oak. Hugh deserves a lot of credit too -- he takes them rock climbing once a week, and he's always been 100% supportive with all their outdoor endeavors. After Whitney and Kings Peak, Hugh will be coming along on the highpointing excursions. Once we're finished with the...

The is the second of three TRs I'm posting this week from our Highpointing 2012 trip out west. I posted our Mt.
