Thank you to all for the kind words! :) The forecast is looking decent tomorrow so the hike is on! Toby, Tuck and I will plan on being at OBP/Falling Waters a little before 9 (if I can wake up at a decent hour, that is). Looking forward to a fun hike!

    Counterclockwise Pemi Loop, 6/19/2011

Thanks, Tim! In my opinion, if you can hike a Presi Traverse then you can definitely hike a Pemi Loop. Pemi Loop = Presi Traverse + a few miles of flat tacked on each end... ;). Go for it! Thanks, Becca! I usually average around 2 to 2.5mph when just hiking. When trail running in the Whites...

    Counterclockwise Pemi Loop, 6/19/2011

Thanks, Sabrina! :) Having done the loop in both directions, I'd say that clockwise is probably the easier of the two. Since you're hitting the highest peaks first, almost all of the significant climbs are easier in the clockwise direction with the exception of South Twin, but once you're over...

    Counterclockwise Pemi Loop, 6/19/2011

This past Sunday Sasquatch and I ran our first Pemi Loop of 2011. The conditions were just about as perfect as they come - dry trails (including the infamously wet and aggravating GRT), cool temperatures, breezy ridgetops, and brilliantly blue skies. Having run 50 miles in the 6 days prior to...

Best Rainy Day Hikes in Whites

There are a few good threads on the subject here and here. All three of the peaks you mentioned are great rainy day hikes. In fact, most of the 4k peaks are! The only thing you really need to look out for are the water crossings if 2+ inches of rain is expected over the course of the day... ;)

Is Road Open to Black Cap Trailhead?

Glad to be of help! Most of the roads open in mid-late May, so you should be able to get the hike in within a few weeks

is it too early to start a "snow-free trails" thread?

Chocorua via Piper will be snow free within a week I'd say. The few short stretches of trail with snow are short easily barebooted at this point.

La Sportiva Wearers, Please Rate-Raptor vs Crosslite II

I think there's a difference between the XF and the AT? http://sportiva.com/frixion/index.php Can't wait to hear more about the shoes once you test them out on the trail. A girl can never have enough trail shoes... :D

La Sportiva Wearers, Please Rate-Raptor vs Crosslite II

Another vote for the Raptor. I believe the Raptors are the only trail shoe that La Sportiva makes with their FriXion XF rubber. I've been wearing them on and off for a few months and they are EXTREMELY grippy on wet, slabby rock. I'd say it is about as good as Inov-8's sticky rubber compound...
