Certainaly the majority would be in the High Peaks, but I always will be doing some winter Whites, VT peaks, etc, so something able to handle whatever the northeast has to offer, on traditional trails, etc...ie non vertical/technical.
I'm looking to pick up a pair of crampons for hiking/mountaineering purposes, not for any ice climbing and am strongly leaning towards BD Contacts. Anyone have them and able to give me feedback on them? Other possible option I'm looking at is BD's Sabretooth, which is a little more heavy duty...
Another great job on your trip report. Very detailed and entertaining to read. I guess I need to get those crampons and ice axe before too long the way this winter is shaping up!
You mentioned ladders on the descent into the col. They must be new. When I climbed them two summers ago...
Working towards my 111:
-all 5 VT
-both in Catskills
-at least 3 trips to the Whites
Thru-hike the N/P trail
Pick up a dSLR to improve photos
Visit cousin out near Shasta for some westcoast hiking :D
Improve my overall hiking conditioning...longer, faster, easier
Ok, I've read through the VT 4000' thread and picked up some info and am leaning towards doing a hike up the Bucklin Trail in a couple of weeks.
Here is my question:
I am wanting to do this as a full moon/sunrise hike. Any mountain specific issues with this? ie groomers, parking or trail...
lol, yes! Now as the brainchild behind this kommitee and thus founder, would it make you the Founder, Record Examination and Acceptance Kommittee (FREAK)?:p
Nice report. :) I have yet to do all 5 at once and think I will probably give it a shot this summer; although, seeing everything covered in ice is a cool, haha, treat! I'll have to pick up some crampons first though...
Nice :) I am Scottish by last name, heart and of course some genealogy; not nearely as direct as yourself but great to meet another VFTT Scotsman! Look forward to seeing you on the trails.
Our group started off from the Rt 2 trailhead on an out and back hike, around noon-time on a beautiful sunny day. The trailhead parking lot wasn't plowed out very well, so without high clearance or 4WD it might have been challenging. There was still room along the side of the road.
The trail...
My roomate and I had this happen to us with Maxim, after we moved last year. Full year subscript, that neither of us signed up for, or every paid for. Kinda wierd, but oh well. Wish it was Backpacker instead, and save me from actually paying for it, lol. It's really the only magazine I ever...
haha, that's awesome. Sorry, no offers here...
I think that would be awesome seeing someone on the trails in a suit, rofl. James Bond style!
I got a snazzy framed photo of my 46'r summit finish; and self treated gift of some MSR Denali Evo Ascents ::D
