    Bog Bridges?

Not always a box but turnpikes are used to elevate a trail in muddy areas. Log cribbing (box) is built and rocks and soil are added to build the trail up, mounded in the center. I helped construct a set of turnpike boxes this fall just above the halfway hut on Tuckerman Ravine trail. This is...

Hi MEB, If you want to report the condition of the bog bridge, you can email Cristin Bailey at the USFS Saco District. She is the trails manager. [email protected] (I'm assuming this is the Nancy Pond trail). I believe the bog bridging is recent. Cheers. Chris

12/22/11 NH Winter Solstice - Northwood Meadows & Piper trail(work)

Ok, I lied. I said my trip to Champney Falls in late November would be my last trailwork trip of the year. Some peakbag, I do trailwork. We all have our addictions! Winter solstice at 12:30am. Felt more like a Spring morning but without bird and frog song. Initial plans to hike a big peak in...

    2 rescued on Chocorua

I hope to get up to the upper ledges to refresh blaze this spring (upper reaches of Piper are my responsibility). Hoping to enlist some help from others on this. I have been told cairns are a non-starter as there is a lack of appropriately sized rock on the summit. Re: Piper. Went up there on...

If the trail (Piper) is anything to go by, you'd be surprised on a weekday on how NOT busy it is. Hope to set up camp in the spring for a few days of trailwork.

Cutting Christmas Trees in the WMNF

I'm with una. My responsibilities as a trail maintainer are clearly defined. A christmas tree or rules regarding this are not listed. Even if the issue was trail related, I try and educate as opposed to chastise or somehow play the role of a law enforcement ranger.
