    knee pain

Thanks for these wonderful responses. My last 2 hiking trips were 8 of the Maine 4 Ks in a long weekend in August and a recent trip to Colorado. After each hike the pain has gotten progressively worse. Am I going to do more damage with more hiking? I've taken the last 4 weeks off and have only...

    knee pain

The last couple of months I've been experiencing some knee pain. It started as just some discomfort after 10 or so miles. It's been getting worse. I had an MRI that revealed a meniscus tear. Anyone have any history with this?

North and South Twins, Galehead and A Close Encounter with a Moose

Wow, I'm glad you two are ok. I'm pretty sure this is the time of the year when the bulls are in rut. Everyone should keep a sharp lookout.

Good Rainy Day NH 4k'er Hike?

Waumbek and Hale are certainly the first two to come to mind. Another might be Cabot. If it starts to rain hard you can use the cabin near the summit. There is a stream crossing early on that can be a problem if the water is high.

    Colorado Roadtrip Day 4

Our last hike on our visit was to be the best. I had done some reasearch on the Indian Peaks Wilderness area. After getting a glimpse of it from Bear peak I knew I wanted to give it a try. The area is in North Central Colorado. It is managed by the US Forest Service and The Nat. Park Service...

    Colorado Roadtrip Days 2&3

On the drive back to Denver after our day one hike to Geneva City, we decided we needed to drop down a bit in elevation in order to better acclimate ourselves to the altitude. Rob mentioned a hike he had done solo a month earlier. It was just outside of Boulder on the Front Range. It had the...

    Colorado Roadtrip Day One

My son Rob graduated from undergrad last May with a degree in Geology. He was fortunate to find work right away. It was however in Denver. He works 20 days straight then is off for 10. Liz and I have been trying to work out a trip to see our son and get in some hiking. Over Labor Day it finally...

    Crockers and Redington, 8/20/2011

Crockers and Redington Hey Earl, Glad you made it across the last bridge reasonably unscathed. I was on Redington last week with some friends. Unfortunatley Liz couldn't get out of work. I also noticed the posted elevation on the summit sign on Spaulding to be at 3988. I guess Maine has a...

    A 3-day, Maine 8-pack, with 6 Moose for Dessert

Spaulding ? A question, Why does Spaulding have a summit sign that states an elevation less than 4 thousand feet? Our gps had a reading of over 4 thousand.

    A 3-day, Maine 8-pack, with 6 Moose for Dessert

Maine 4Ks Great report Beth. Thanks to you and Ken and Karen for a very enjoyable 3 days of hiking. I love it when a plan comes together. My only regret was the lack of views from Saddleback and the Horn. At least we got a good look at them from Abraham. I can't wait to go back and bag the...
