Dreams Realized on Washington and Jefferson 3/12/12

Congratulations to all three of you on summitting Washington and Jefferson!!! As always, your story is beautifully written and the photos are spectacular. Your trips reports are so inspirational because they capture all aspects of a hike - not just details about the trail or how beautiful the...

It was great to see you guys - I'm glad Geneva got her peak. We thought for sure we'd see you again. We even tested the theory...let's just say, we thought if you had taken the bushwhack back, you'd actually be ahead of us!!! Hopefully we actually hike together next time :)

A Stellar Day on Liberty and Flume 1/16/12

It was significantly warmer than our Garfield hike the previous day. There were no frozen eyelashes or premature aging this time. Wish you could have joined us.

A Stellar Day on Liberty and Flume 1/16/12

Stellar days don’t come along too often and we were fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time. We decided to hike Liberty and Flume with Mike – that would afford us fantastic views and allow us to finish at a reasonable time. We parked on the northbound Basin Parking lot…Mike...

    Foot warmers on top?

I've been using toe warmers since I started skiing over 10 years ago. The first time I purchased them - the woman at the ski shop told me to put them on top of my sock and not to listen to the directions on the package. They won't shift and it allows them to get the air they need to stay warm...

What is the current condition of CVR and the road to Abraham? Are they still drivable or do we need to ski in?

Congratulations to Sage on her finish - you had a gorgeous day for it!!! I was really hoping that we'd see you guys on the Tri's but things don't always work out as planned. I'm sure our paths will cross at some point...

Thanks for the Greenie...and yes, I am a numbers geek :) I compiled the data out of curiousity...I just wanted to see how many others had the same start/finish combos that I did. Then I was curious about how many years on average it took people. I'd like to hear the stories behind how people...

You know you are a peakbagger when

The third least popular 46th peak is indeed Donaldson :) My guess as to why there were so few finishes on South Dix is that you normally go over South Dix to get to East Dix or Macomb depending on which direction you're coming from.

You know you are a peakbagger when

I'm a numbers geek so I couldn't help myself...for years, I've been copying all the 46er data and have put tables together of start/finish peaks, years to complete and number of completions by year. Through 2010, there aren't any peaks that nobody has finished on but there are two that are...

Autumn on the Beach - Paddling Narrow River (Narragansett, RI) - 10-7-11

You had fantastic weather for a paddle and you're right - that spot is very different in the summertime. Despite the crowds in the summer - the boat beach is my favorite weekend spot. We paddle down from Pettaquamscutt beach, spend the afternoon riding the current around the point, boogie...

Taking Advantage of the Calm Before the Storm - Quonnie Pond

Great pictures in your blog. I haven't paddled Quonnie yet - it looks beautiful. Anytime you can combine paddling and a nice beach...it's a perfect combination. Not to mention you picked an incredibly beautiful to paddle.

    rudder necessity ?

Between my brother and I, we have 5 Tsunami's - 2 120's without the rudder, 2 125's without the rudder and 1 120 with the rudder. We mainly paddle rivers and lakes where a rudder has not been needed. The 120's handle nicely on tight winding rivers and the 125's take a bit more effort to make...

Wildcat new owners - Polecat still open?

FWIW - On 1/15/11 four of us had planned on hiking up Polecat over the ridge and down 19 MBT. None of us had been up polecat and hadn't printed out a map so we went inside the lodge for some information and to make sure it was still ok to use that route. I hadn't read anything to make me...

Osceolas On A Bluebird Day, 1/17/2011

No worries...we didn't introduce ourselves for the same reason :) - it was a very cold day and minimizing breaks was key to not getting any colder. I'm sure our paths will cross again at some point...hopefully on a warmer day. Despite the cold, it was an absolutely beautiful day with clear...
