Horn,Bulge,Cabot via Unknown Pond Trail, Kilkenny, Brunnell, & York Pond 7/9/11

Unknown Pond Trail is somewhat overgrown, going through tall, wet ferns. Remarkably beautiful. Only a few marking on the trees but it was clear where the trail went. Passed Unknown Pond, Took a left on to Kilkenny and followed it to the Horn. Scrambled up boulders at the top. Some views with...

Tripyramids via Livermore, Mt. Tripyramid and North & South Slides 6/19/11

Most of the trails are in good shape, dry, and well marked except for the Slides. Livermore could use some trail work, getting quite narrow in some sections. First time hiking North Slide, only saw a few faded yellow markings on the rocks. So much fun scrambling up the rocks! Breathtaking views...

Wilderness Trail & Osseo Trail to Flume 6/5/11

All the trails are dry and well marked. Beautiful, sunny day with a light breeze.Sunscreen and bug repellant very helpful. The mosquitos and black flies are AWFUL. They were the worst when I was going up and down the ladders. I think it was a calculated ploy on their part. Breathtaking views...

    Rescue on Mount Jackson

Reply to Dennis I'm not sure. I went to the left, hiking to the summit, then followed the cairns to the top.I thought I went back the same way but when I reached a relatively flat area, the trail disappeared. There were 2 groups of hikers who'd summited perhaps 20 minutes before me, and their...

    Pierce via Crawford Path 3/13

As Ed from Ed nLauky said, the trail is solidly packed, until you get above tree line. I barebooted and Patty from Vermont used snowshows. There was no postholing on the trail. Lightly snowing the whole trip which made it more beautiful. We followed Ed's suggestion and took the bushwack to summit...

Cannon via Kinsman Ridge Trail 1/2/11

Trail packed down for the most part, but very heavy, wet snow in places. Snowshoes essential. Ran into one person postholing, which was messing up the trail. Alternating clouds and sun. Beautiful views, with and without the sun. Hiked with Mad River.

Caps Ridge Trail to ??Jefferson 11/21/10

A few inches of snow on the trail made a big difference in being able to follow the trail. Most of the yellow markings were covered over. The trail was slippery and the snow covered gaps between the rocks. So we hiked cautiously. After we reached the sign for the Castle Trail, it should have...

    127 Hours ~ New Movie

Saw 127 hours last night I read the book Between A Rock & Hard Place, loved it & found it inspiring. I saw the movie last night, also really liked it. Some of it is close to the original story but Aaron Ralston is portrayed as more of a party guy in the movie. In the movie when he cuts part...

Winter conditions at the Bonds. A few inches of snow on ground above Zealand Hut. Lightly snowing. It was hailing on the ascent to Bond, with snow drifting to higher amounts. Very gusty wind.
