Glad it helped. I find it a pretty good little (free) program. :thumbup Keith

    Resolution Shelter closed

I couldn't agree more. It was the first I used and one of the ones that enjoyed most. I am really sorry to hear it was finally closed. Keith

    Mapsource-Vertical Profile?

Depending on what version of windows you have, you should be able to capture it with alt-printscreen or the snipping tool. You should be able to paste it into paint or better is Gimp which is free online. Keith

    sleeping in your car

Same here. Usually arrived at 11pm or midnight and out pretty early. I didn't do it often, maybe twice with some of the more obscure trail-heads. I did get in "trouble" once in Dolly Copp but that was because of a misunderstanding, though the FS ranger was pretty pissed until he figured out what...

REALLY bad news - Governor's list of NY park closures

This is the same question I have. What does it mean. I know they aren't packing up the trees, so what would it mean. Just that I need to hike responsibly because the rangers won't be there. That is fine with me. I need to swim at my own risk. Again, I prefer that. I don't know what a closed park...

Do you keep your gun loaded when you hike?

Of course, if you run into this bear. A gun might not be enough. :D Ninja Bear Keith

Do you keep your gun loaded when you hike?

Hmmmmm. Just looked at that url. Not trying to cast aspersions but I just looked at the guy firing the redhawk. In all three photos he has his eyes closed. Now, I might not be an expert but I have always had trouble hitting anything when I fired and I had my eyes closed. But, again, I'm no...

Smoky Mtns in NH? Smarts Mtn Comparing

It was pretty surprising/amazing. I originally assumed that it was from the campfires but the campground nearby doesn't allow fires before 7PM and after 11PM so it wasn't them. And I was trying to figure out the haze because there was no humidity. It was pretty surprising. But I also remember my...

Do you keep your gun loaded when you hike?

There are several calibers that could be considered adequate for Grizzly. What isn't stated is what .45 it was. A .45 long colt is a potent cartridge. Since he fired nine times I suspect it was a .45 ACP. At close range that is a very potent weapon against humans, what it was designed for, but...

We could actually smell the smoke on Saturday and Sunday and the haze was clearly visible. Keith

Unsuccesful attempt at Carrigain pond and the Captain

Glad you wrote Bob. I'm am really happy your trip turned out so well. I wasn't sure the first night how far you would have made it. A 7 out of a 10 huh? I'll have to discuss the route you took offline if you don't mind. And you say "lack of steepness"? The route you took you didn't think was...

Unsuccesful attempt at Carrigain pond and the Captain

For those of you that had read this under the trips and events forum I apologize. I shouldn't try posting at 3AM. First trip report I have ever done. This was a trip I was planning on for a very long time. I was going to test some gear and I waited for the weather to be as cooperative as it...

    Recommended GPS?

My recommendation. Take a look at the Delorme's. Especially consider what is available in terms of software. Expense and especially the quality and amount of information displayed on both the computer and the GPS. http://www.vftt.org/forums/showthread.php?p=312837#post312837 Keith
