    Question about Sleepers East Peak

I went up via the Tripyramid South Slide and took Kate Sleeper out and back. It was nice, particularly with the two slides and the views from them. Neither slide was daunting. If you choose that route, keep a watchful eye for the Kate Sleeper trail sign. It was faded and easy to miss...

How awful was this winter ...

What Tom said :D I usually put my Microspikes away for the winter. This year I wore them down to nubs. Marty

Hiking footwear recommendations for Kauai trip

Thanks to everyone for the most helpful suggestions. I do have the Kauai Revealed book. Been studying it religiously. We've been jealous of others who have visited Hawaii in the past. Now it's our turn.:) Roadtripper, we are not going until early next year. I like to plan ahead. :rolleyes...

Hiking footwear recommendations for Kauai trip

Hi all, My wife and I are planning a second honeymoon to Kauai. Our activities will most certainly include some day hiking.:D Am kind of torn between bringing waterproof lightweight hiking boots, or opt for trail runners. We do expect to get caught in the rain, as our hikes will...

    2012 - 4,000 Footer Club dinner-award ceremony

I agree with my Kevin. Was at Pawtuckaway on April 1. Below are a couple things to add: The road that leads to the South and Middle Mountain traditional trailheads was gated. If it still is, you would have to walk the road to the trailheads (3/4 mile?). The trailheads have good signage...

Better late than never..The Winter 2012 in review..

Excellent chronology for an excellent winter of hiking. Sorry I was unable to join you on any of these. At least I got to see you and a large Bonds/Zealand contingent in the Lincoln Woods parking lot in January. :) Congrats to you and everyone who finished various lists. Hope our paths cross...

Hiked 18 NH winter 4ks. Finished my winter 48 in early February (thanks again, Earl, Sue and team). I then had the pleasure to join Jason Berard and LarryD for their winter 48 finishes over the past two weekends. Marty

NEHHw finish on Baxter Peak 3-10-12

Congratulations on an amazing achievement!! We never met, but you broke trail on Signal Ridge Trail from the road to Carrigain Notch, when you did Vose Spur six years ago (thanks again). Looks like you had a banner day to finish. Regards, Marty

The Yin and Yang of Madison and Adams on a Winter Day 3-10-12

Concur with the others. I especially loved the ground blizzard shot, with those big chunks of snow flying. Experienced that first hand on Sunday! Thanks for sharing John and June. Regards, Marty P.S. Nice meeting you on West Bond about 5 weeks ago!

Jason, it was indeed a grand way to finish the winter 48. Glad I could be with you for the finish, along with a great group of guys and one cow moose. According to my unofficial count, we finished 15 of the winter 48 together! Congrats again. Marty

    Appointment to FLTC

Same with me, but my brother-in-law is on the FLT all the time and loves it! We hiked the Keuka Outlet Trail last time I was back home. The FLT will be on the agenda for next time. Congratulations Bubba. I am certain that you will do an awesome job. Marty

    Katahdin Route

Ryan, you are 100% correct. Blueberry Knoll is a rocky high point at the northern terminus of the North Basin Trail. There may be some herd paths leading into the basin, which probably have some great views, but I have never tried that. Blueberry Knoll also makes a nice detour after...

    Monroe-Washington-Jefferson Loop, 2/27/2012

Wow Earl, that was some hike, especially if Sue had to use poles. ;) She usually just takes them along for the ride. Thanks as always for the TR and pix. Nice job by both of you. Hope our paths cross soon, my friend. :) Marty

    Katahdin Route

Great recommendations so far. Just have one to add: You might want to check out Blueberry Knoll, if you desire an "easy" day, or want a slightly longer, but more interesting return trip from Chimney Pond to the Roaring Brook parking lot. It is a very cool and unique place off the beaten path...

A Quick Hike To Isolation, 2/11/2012

Great TR, Earl. Sounds like it was a stellar hike. Kody is a BEAUTIFUL Golden Retriever and apparently was quite the seagull, trying to con everyone for treats on the summit. :) Keep on hiking my friend! Marty

    Planned Hikes Next Week, 2/6, 2/7, & 2/11/2012

Did Cabot 10 days ago. We finshed about 5 pm and the gate was open and buried deep in the snow. Don't think you have to worry it closing. One of my hiking partners mentioned that they don't close it in the winter. The Kilkenny Trail north of Cabot, which connects with the Unknown Pond Trail...
