Pemi Ski Loop in Less than 30 Hours :)

The bog bridges on the North end are rotting and it is very wet in there. Once they're gone that trail will essentially be impassable during the summer months. -Dr. Wu

    Skiing the East

There are other mountains in the East but most of the xxxxxxxxxx scumbags go to the Whites... El-Bagr did some ski-the-48 thing a few years back, might want to look there: http://www.vftt.org/forums/showthread.php?t=6216 -Dr. Wu

    Trail Breaker For Hire

If he 'breaks it out' by stomping down the snow it's just going to turn to ice and your driveway is going to be crazy slippery... -Dr. Wu

    5 days? Yeah right!

I don't think it's such a big secret that this person is J.R. Stockwell. You've mentioned him on the site before and a lot of people have met him either hiking or in the Mountain Wanderer... very cool guy. -Dr. Wu

    5 days? Yeah right!

You would probably have to subject this to an internet forum such as this one in order to decide upon the correct rules for such an undertaking. -Dr. Wu

    Climbing Rainier in May-June

Doing the 7 Summits would be a good way to acclimatize too, one would assume. At least according to Jen Gross. -Dr. Wu

    5 days? Yeah right!

I think what it comes down to is Ryan should have consulted with the previous record holder about whether or not having trail breakers was ok. -Dr. Wu

    5 days? Yeah right!

"Winter Hiking Ethics", serious? There are ethics that Ryan is breaking by having trails broken out for him? -Dr. Wu

Winter in the Whites and being prepared

I bet they'd be pretty freaked out if like 30 people showed up, unannounced, and seemed to know everything about who they were, scrutinized their gear, passed unnecessary judgment etc. VFTT would up the creep factor a few notches... Seema, what dates are they headed up? I gotta get my Freddie...

Winter in the Whites and being prepared

Serious: I don't understand why we all just don't go? Make a Gathering out of it. They won't mind and it'll be fun and we'll make sure they don't kill themselves falling into King's Ravine or getting run down by an exploding, careening out-of-control Cog engine. Just tell us the date and we'll...

Winter in the Whites and being prepared

I'll go. People totally love having me around, especially for my keen navigational abilities, top notch winter gear and good choice of summit-time beverages. We can play the "don't look at the sign" game which is particularly fun in the Northern Presis... the trail runners / shorts / microspikes...

    New New Balance Shoes

Everyone take a drink! :D That's because his options were: track shoe or big ugly 15lb clodhopper. Or I guess some kind of dress shoe or pump. But these days there's about 10 million different types of shoes to chose from. Back in the olden days you had to take whatever the local 5 & 10...

    New New Balance Shoes

New Balance is jumping into the minimalist shoe thing. So is Merrell. Looking forward to trying both shoes is about the only reason I have at all to live this winter. Neither of these are horrible toe-shoes which is a good thing. It's all the rage now... -Dr. Wu

    Jefferson Ravine

There are no trails (to my knowledge) in Jefferson Ravine and I haven't heard about people going there very much. But when you look down from Edmund's Col it looks pretty cool. Anyone ever gone there? I bet a perfect time would be during spring melt... -Dr. Wu
