Canadian Hiker Shuttle Lincoln Lafayette Route

This part of the OP doesn't sound like "Detour Nature". Sounds like it might be an outing club from a university. Detour nature used to drive 40 plus seat buses to the Adirondacks and disgorge everybody at one trailhead. The DEC got them to mend their ways. Could be they send those buses to...

Canadian Hiker Shuttle Lincoln Lafayette Route

That sounds like an outfit called "Detour Nature". The group described in the OP sounds quite different from them.

Canadian Hiker Shuttle Lincoln Lafayette Route

In the Dacks there is a reg that restricts group sizes to 15 for day hikes and IIRC 10 for overnights. Anything like that in the works for the Whites? (We just had a bit of a kerfuffle but thanks to an advanced warning system :D managed to prevent a group of 70-80 hikers from doing the Jay...

    Four Dacks days.

Carl, by whacking do you mean taking the herd path up the North and South forks of the Boquet? I've been up that way twice this season but not in he past month. With all the new snow and more forecasted I would think the rocks are all covered up. I think it's better to stay on the south side...

    Four Dacks days.

Rather than write up something entertaining and use clever literary devices and such-like I’ll stick to the dry facts. Thursday: Street-Nye-Whiteface Esther Friday: Wright-Algonquin-Iroquois-Colden-Tabletop-Phelps Saturday: Chicken Coop-Saddleback-Gothics-Armstrong-Upper Wolf Jaw-Lower Wolf...

    Sawteeth-Haystack-Sawteeth.

Spot Messenger Track I was supposed to be underway at 6:30 and planned on exiting the St. Huberts parking lot like I was shot out of a gun but my carefully laid plans got shot to bits. Thus, I signed out at 8:30 and walked up the road without hurrying. I had many options bouncing around in my...

Sawteeth and Marcy. St. Huberts to the Loj.

In spite of the fact that we are pack animals, hard-wired to do things (like hunt and gather) in groups, I believe it is good for us all to spend some time alone. I ended up spending 11.5 hours alone yesterday while being in the great outdoors getting life-giving exercise at the same time...

    Sylight, circumnavigation of Haystack, Marcy.

I'll be attempting the ADK-46 in 12 days. You can check out the link in my sig line for details.

    Sylight, circumnavigation of Haystack, Marcy.

At 7:15 four hikers departed the High Peaks Information Center parking area bound for Skylight and beyond. Sporting various spikey implements (including brand new Hillsounds for Alistair) we marched to the summit of Skylight in 4 hours, sharp. The wind was calm, skies were blue, the mountains...

    2013 In Review: Peak-Bragging!

Actually, it just worked out Basin was the last one. The Basin Amphitheater side trip was just to make the Sawteeth whack more interesting. Earlier, I scrubbed 2 trips to whack Basin (via the slides) due to foul weather. It turned out to be a great peak to finish on though.

    In need of Knee advice

For the record, I'm a chiropractor and I treat knees. For a group of ten patients with the same diagnosis you could easily end up with 10 different treatment approaches and exercise prescriptions. The current thinking regarding a lot of knee issues is that the hip steers the knee and as such...

RPR/Giant. From (new) Russia With Love to Rte 9N.

It must have been 9:30 when I finally got rolling. I had stopped in at randomscoots and we configured my Spot account settings so I could let Tom know when to come and pick me up on the side of the road later that day. We tested the device and sure enough, within minutes an email showed up...

    Marcy-Haystack. Infinite beauty.

Photos Gearing up for a 12-day winter 46 involves lots of training hikes. On Thursday, Joe cedar, Boghollow and I tackled Hay and Marcy from the Loj. Turned out to b a great idea! It was clear, cold and dry and the winds were moderate. Microspikes sufficed all day so our crampons provided...

Why Is My Backpack So Much Bigger Than Yours?

Late November after doing Colden on a single digit morning my partner stepped onto thin ice and broke through over his boot top not once but twice. Same boot though! In this case a change of socks and a plastic bag worked out well enough that he could go on and summit Gray, Sky, Marcy, Tabletop...

Why Is My Backpack So Much Bigger Than Yours?

Everyone plays the game according to their personal level of comfort and enjoyment. We all take our chances and we mitigate the risks in various ways. One way, carrying a heavy pack with a lot of gear is not unlike conceding that you consider the activity to have a fairly high level of danger...
