"The Grid" has replaced "The List"

I'd say there is quite a few here, including myself, who have averaged more than 3 peaks a week for a 3.5 year stretch. Tons of respect for Fred Hunt but the king of North East peak bagging is Pin Pin. He climbed the 46 in every season...for 50 consecutive seasons. He averaged just less than 9...

Hydrofracking for natural gas in Catskills

Another one of the issues brought up with drilling deep holes seems to now have some evidence to look into: Video

    Paracord Survival Bracelet

I'd say! I was up leaf peeping with my GF in Vermont this Sunday afternoon and found an eight year old selling them roadside along with a glass of lemonade for only $9!

"The Grid" has replaced "The List"

I think it's West of TF mountain? Of course I think I heard Mr Kill say something like WTF, JF, so maybe we should ask, JF?

The Trap Dike before and after

I hiked up the Trap Dike a few days before Irene hit and took a series of photos (34) that now serve as the before, and I climbed it on 9/14 with Inge and took 90+. I also have 5 videos of the before and roughly 28 after. It will take awhile to upload all the video but I will try to have it done...

New Slides: First Ascents and Naming

Great, I can't wait for the "which one did you say" right after I say it everytime reply! ;) I think something associated with the Angel which is well known would be fun though, "stairway to heaven" esque? Maybe one like "the right path" for the whole way to heaven thing and because it is right...

    Haunted Campfire

The burning fire is breaking down the wood, some is the stuff flying out from micro explosions and the rest is the stuff breaking off that is now light enough to be carried away by the thermal currents.

    DEC to announce trail reopenings

You are putting in a lot of time so let me point out some reference points that are confusing on that map: There is two "Vanderwhacker Mtn" areas on the map. The one to the right (and right side of Upper Works) is the North River range just to the South/Southwest of Allen. The Vanderwhacker...

    DEC to announce trail reopenings

I agree, I can't see why after being closed due to major flooding you would then open it the day after two days of rain for a Thursday. Giving it 24 hours to come back down and open on Friday seems more logical but maybe thats why I'm not in charge.

    DEC to announce trail reopenings

The ADK site says they will be open tomorrow. Phil, is saying an announcement was going to be made today but was pushed back until tomorrow. Them saying they will make an announcement tomorrow and the idea that the trails are open tomorrow morning are two different things. Getting to a trailhead...

New Slides: First Ascents and Naming

I already have a name picked out for the one on Colden, I'm going to call it "The Trap Dike". I think it will catch on. Or if I die or kill someone else from all the loose debris in that tight space I will call it the "it's ok, I'm a 46er", I figure that will put a smile on the rangers face as...

section of NJ A.T. closed temporarily

It's an interesting year to say the least. In many places in the NE especially upstate NY many records were broken for the wettest Spring on record. Then the rain turned off so to speak and has been very dry for the most part.
