Very nice Tim!
It's difficult to pick a favorite photo among so many excellent contenders.
However, if push comes to shove, I'd pick the "Shining Rock and Scary Clouds" photo for its uniqueness!
Very nice hike, Yvon!
As you already know from our Facebook conversation, I was on Old Speck the same day as you were hiking the Baldpates.
Shown below is photo taken from Old Speck looking at the area where you and Annie were hiking!!
The Baldpates are seen on the horizon on upper right side...
Ascent was via the Eyebrow Trail and Old Speck Trail. For the descent, the Old Speck Trail was followed all the way back to the trailhead.
The total round-trip distance for this route was 7.7 miles.
Overall, the entire route was in pretty good shape.
There were no blowdowns. As one would...
Please bear in mind that I have no expertise in matters related to asphalt, and so my question is born of naiveté. As shown in the photo, the damage to the foliage extends high up into the canopy of some rather sizeable trees, some of which are situated on a hillside and are well off the...
When driving through the Franconia Notch today (26-June), couldn't help but notice that it looked like early autumn in the general vicinity roughly between Boise Rock and Exit 34B.
Maybe the recent roadwork in the Notch somehow damaged the foliage??
(Moderator: I didn't see a previous...
Becca, your adventures (including this one) would push the limits for many folks with two healthy knees!
This is an excellent report supplemented with many interesting photos!
Best wishes to you for speedy healing of that cranky knee!
Tim, your report and photos are superb! And speaking of photos, as others have mentioned, that first one is quite special! I even like the caption beneath it, i.e. "Otter Cliffs at Not-Dawn".
Did the Franconia Ridge Loop via a counterclockwise route, i.e. Old Bridle Path; Falling Waters; Franconia Ridge; Greenleaf; Old Bridle Path.
Just to re-confirm what many of you already know from recent hikes along that route, the trails are in good shape!:)
My BLOG has a few photos from this...
A few days ago I posted a report on my Blog about a hike to Tecumseh from Tripoli Road. Upon arriving at the top of Tecumseh I met a couple who had hiked up from Waterville Valley. They were raving about the splendid stone work they encountered on their way up the mountain.
A huge 'pat on...
Hiked with a work crew up the Peabody Brook Trail to open a new spur trail that leads to the ledges on Bald Cap Peak where there are excellent vistas of the northern Presidentials and Androscoggin Valley. This yellow-blazed trail departs from the south side of the Peabody Brook Trail about 0.5...
Although I've been to Mt. Tecumseh many times, this was the first time I'd hiked the Mt. Tecumseh Trail from the Tripoli Road trailhead. I was favorably impressed with the route. The trail is well-maintained, and the treadway is only lightly worn and soft underfoot.
If I had to say anything...
A healthy attitude and a helpful partner is a great formula for a speedy recover. In other words:
Smiles:) + Laughter:D + Una_Dogger = Speedy Recovery!
Thanks Peakbagger . . . very useful info! I was on the Success Pond Road the day before (25-May), but only went as far as the trailhead for the Success Trail. Just as you reported, the first mile or so of the road is very rough with large cobble-sized rocks all over the road.
I was...
The trail covers a distance of about 12.5 miles. However my wife and I only walked the segment of trail that begins at the Airport Park trailhead and leads you out onto Lake Champlain via a causeway. From there, you get spectacular views of the Lake, as well as New York's Adirondack...
There was NO PROBLEM with parking. After driving 5.4 miles on Success Pond Road, I made the right turn onto the logging road spur, and then another right at a fork in the road, and followed this narrow road to the large field where there's ample room for parking. The Success Trail takes off...
