    Belknap Range questions

Looking for ideas for a Belknap version of a Pemi Loop Lite type of hike. Criteria: - Loop hike, lollipop loop is acceptable - 12 to 20 miles - Great views - no (or minimal) private property issues - coming from I93 South - info on parking / permits / other misc things. - how good is the trail...

    Guns on the trail

This is not directed at anyone in particular, but.....It would be interesting to know how many of the people who are anti open carry on the trail make it a habit of driving home buzzed/drunk/over the legal limit after visiting the local bar&grill after hiking. One of the above-mentioned...

    How To Hike Katahdin

Another perspective. When I hiked Katahdin, I went up Cathedral, across the Knife Edge, and down Helon Taylor. For pretty much the entire hike I played leap-frog with a group of 20'ish year old girls, one of whom had a prosthetic arm. So she did Cathedral, Knife Edge, and the Chimney notch...

Yet Another Mount Hale via Firewarden's Trail Report 3/11/14

Earlier this week, in an icicle photo in another trip report, I noticed an ice-climbing monkey. Today, in your snowman photo, just in front of the snowman, I can see ET hugging a smaller indistinct snow creature. Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.

    Flume, Liberty, Lincoln, Lafayette, 3/8

Beautiful light in the third pic. Am I just sleep deprived or is there a monkey ice climbing in the last pic?

    Winter Six Husbands Trail Question

See post #19. I've read a lot of trip reports on VFTT... this one is tough to beat. http://www.vftt.org/forums/showthread.php?34325-Six-Husbands-Trail/page2

    Pemi loop

Suggestions: - drop the metric.....nobody uses metric in Pemi Loop context - don't overexplain it.....make people think - obviously don't use the google earth map below, that's just to spark your imagination - forget the spurs,...stick to the basic loop...spurs are a can of worms

Where would you buy (Location, location, location...) ??

I understand the "familiarity breeds contempt" thing, and I also see that you put quotes around the word "bored". But having been born and raised in a ghetto, I can't imagine ever getting "bored" (quotes or not) in the northern Presidential Range area. I would love to have that problem.

Boston Globe Article - Winter 4000 footers

Love that picture of the hiker on Mount Bond. All the times I've been on Bond, and I've yet to see that view there. I'll have to go back and search for it. A crappy article in the Boston Globe?.....hang on while I try to contain my surprise.

Why Is My Backpack So Much Bigger Than Yours?

You did not call the questioner "ignorant", DougPaul did. My post was directed at him. I included your quote to give a more complete context.

Why Is My Backpack So Much Bigger Than Yours?

Such a question might also reveal the friendliness of the questioner. Maybe he was just casually asking DayTrip about his hiking plans. It's not unusual for people to do that. Seeing someone with a 90L pack and asking if he's spending the night doesn't make the questioner ignorant.

    Rattlesnake Sunrise Shots

Beautiful photos. Isn't it nice when you wake up that early and the light cooperates? Thanks for sharing the fruits of your sleep deprivation.

No Franconia Ridge for me, just the folks in jeans (Falling Waters falls after snow)

John, don't sweat the liability stuff. Even the scummiest bottom-feeding slip-n-fall lawyer would have nothing in this situation. Now, on to more important things....really nice photos. These are not easy exposures. Waterfalls in dark shaded areas have so much contrast, it's tough to capture...

    Speed trap

If you (and others) love to speed there, then I hope the police ARE setting up shop there. I love how people use the phrase speed trap, as if the cops are somehow tricking people into speeding. Here's a crazy idea, how about just driving at or slightly above the speed limit? The posted speed...

Alta Via 2 Italian Dolomites Trek

About 2 seconds into your slide show, I said to myself "so what". And so of course I watched the whole thing. Looks like an awesome trip. Beautiful photos. And of course, great soundtrack. I think you and pudgy_groundhog are going to get lots of people to consider visiting the Dolomites...

Top 25 "Scenic Hikes" in New England?

I'll vote for moving Hight to the top 25 list and bumping either Monadnock or Moosilauke to the runnerup list. View from summit of Hight

Wildcat Winter Rules - Background and Discussion

I've never hiked the Wildcats in the winter, so I'm just wondering: why don't you just hike the mountains via the hiking trails?

Freedom of the New England Hills

hikerbrian, in my previous post, when I said "most people could do them", I meant most people who hike. I should've been more precise. Besides that clarifying statement, I stand by every word of my post, as I'm sure you do of your post(s). You will not convince me otherwise, nor will I...
