Whitecap and North Kennebago Divide 10/18/12

Great day to get out and knock these peaks off my list. From where we parked, the old road was in pretty good shape, a bit wet and muddy in areas, but overall good walking. When you get to a spot where the road has grown in in front of you, look for the cairn in the grass at your feet, and then...

    Osceolas 10/5

It was a long awaited return to the Osceolas (11th and 12th on my first round), after an absence of nearly two years. This time, it was by a different route, up Greeley Ponds to Mt. Osceola! I always love being on new (to me) trails, and these didn't disappoint. Greeley Ponds was wet and muddy...

Franconia Ridge Traverse or Zealand/Bonds Traverse 9/27 or 9/28

I completely forgot to say that I was doing it yesterday, just that it was happening. Oops! The day was superb, and seeing the rain outside, I'm glad it went down yesterday! Maybe a mid-week (Thursday) Franconia Ridge Traverse on 10/11?

    Zealand/Bonds out and back 8/27/12

It was time for a big hike, and today was the day. It was chilly at times, and winter layers were the clothing of choice. My previous longest hike was a 17.5 mile, 6100 ft. of gain, Passaconaway/Whiteface/Sleepers/Tripyramids loop back in June. This one would lengthen to 20, but with slightly...

Franconia Ridge Traverse or Zealand/Bonds Traverse 9/27 or 9/28

For anyone who is interested, I'll be doing an out and back of Zealand and the Bonds from Zealand. 20 miles, 5700 ft of gain, book time of 12 hours 50 minutes. I plan on being at the trailhead by 5:15 and on trail by 5:30. :D

Franconia Ridge Traverse or Zealand/Bonds Traverse 9/27 or 9/28

Sadly I have to work this Saturday, otherwise I would. Man, I have to work that Saturday too!

Franconia Ridge Traverse or Zealand/Bonds Traverse 9/27 or 9/28

Thanks for the warning Tim. Right now, I'm really leaning towards the Bonds from Zealand (should I end up solo). It'll definitely be pushing the envelope, but I figure if I can muster the energy to jog/run most of the Zealand Trail, and keep my breaks to a minimum, I'll do it way under book time.

Franconia Ridge Traverse or Zealand/Bonds Traverse 9/27 or 9/28

Anyone interested in doing either of these? Right now I'm leaning towards the 27th, and I have yet to decide which hike to do. If there are no takers, I'll likely do an out and back of Zealand and the Bonds. The plan for Franconia Ridge would be to start at the Tramway lot, go up Greenleaf to...

A triumphant return to Huntington Ravine 9/22/12

Several weeks ago, I began chatting with Mike (aka NH Tramper) and he asked if I wanted to do Huntington Ravine with him. I jumped at the opportunity, but told him I'd only do it if it was dry. Time passed, and the day was upon us. A drizzly, damp, early morning gave way to a beautiful, sun...

Goose Eye via Wright Trail 9/14/12

Glad to hear you had an awesome day! I've seen the path leading off to the left right near the trailhead, but just thought it led down to the stream, I never realized it connected. Next time for sure! Congratulations on #100 as well!

Nehh finish on scar ridge 8/26/12

I'm one of those that did it in August 2011, on a hot day just before Irene. We didn't find the "magic line" either. We ended up going too far on the herd path to Black Mountain, so started slightly lower, and had decent woods up until the last couple hundred yards before the summit...

Burnt Meadow Mountain via Burnt Meadow Trail and Twin Brook Trail 8/31

Took a short afternoon hike to Burnt Meadow. Got drizzled on a bit for about 5 minutes, all trail surfaces were dry as a bone, and the "brooks" on Twin Brook Trail were basically dry. Here's a more in depth report. More pictures here. Cheers, Bill

East and West Goose Eye via the "not recommended" route 8/30

Unstrung and myself were finally able to get our schedules coordinated and get out to do a hike. Goose Eye was the choice, she suggested it, and I still "needed" it, so it made plenty of sense. We checked out the north fork of the Wright Trail, and all in all, I've seen trails in worse shape...

    A Presidential Finish

That shouldn't even be a question! I'm undoubtedly down for that! :D

    A Presidential Finish

Congratulations Mike! :D You make sure to let me know if you want company on some winter peaks, I still have 33 of them staring me in the face, and you seem like the kind of man who gets things done. ;) Cheers, Bill

Better map for Baxter State Park

I've had the Map Adventures White Mountains map since I started hiking again 2 years ago, it's always proved easy to read, and its held up very well. Had my eye on the Baxter map as well, as I also have only the AMC paper map.

Doubletop and a CoeSoBro Loop (BSP) 8/22-23

Spent two lovely days at Nesowadnehunk, getting some much needed time to myself. Also managed to knock off two more of the 100 Highest, that hasn't happened in a couple of months! Read all about it at my fledgling "blog". Cheers, Bill

Thanks for the encouragement Earl! Patient and focused will be the name of the game! ;)

Coe, Brothers, Fort Loop, Baxter Park, Maine, 8/13/2012

And so is this one! I'll be up in Baxter Wednesday and Thursday, planning on hitting Doubletop after I arrive Wednesday, and then this one Thursday. I may or may not do the whack out to Fort, as I'll be solo. The plan is to do the same counterclockwise loop, then make the decision once I reach...

Climbing Katahdin via stellar Cathedral Trail down Hamlin 7-12-12

Great pictures! I was up there the following day, it was quite a nice stretch of weather, a bit hot for my taste. Glad you had an awesome time! :D
