Most Difficult Trail In The Northeast

I've been up Huntington, Six Husbands, Great Gulf, Tripyramids slide, Castle Ravine headwall, Knife edge, etc. While challenging, I enjoyed them all, and have no problem hiking them again. The one trail is swear never to do again is THE LINK. A slanting, rock and roots filled trail, that would...

Record Streamflows in NH - Road Damaged

I'm concerned about any backpackers who did stream crossings Saturday morning and are now trapped. The weather forecast was quite dire for the weekend so hopefully most backpackers had other plans.

    Parking Issues at Dianas Baths

I heard on the local radio that an organization [not sure who] was to offer a training program to local businesses on where to steer their customers to other than Diana's Baths this summer. There are beautiful falls with possible swimming holes in Jackson and some areas off the Kanc that are...

Mt. Washington hikers who called for help could face charges for rescue

    Waterville Valley Real Estate

I lived in East Thornton for over 15 years and love it! I have easy access to the highway, there are good restaurants thanks to the ski area, I like being at the gateway to the White Mountains for hiking adventures and Plymouth is nearby for grocery shopping. I have my own home but you might...

Massive heat wave coming to North Conway area

Looks like it will get cooler Saturday night so waiting until Sunday to hike up Mt. Liberty. The trail should be frozen once more for MicroSpikes but the brook crossings might still be challenging. Hope to get up and down before the snow starts to get soft.

    Mt Lafayette Rescue on Wednesday

I don't own a GPS. You don't need one to prevent mishaps such as this one. Just common sense like looking at the weather forecast and when you encounter storms/whiteout conditions just turn around and call it another day. Seems to work for me after over 40 years of hiking.

    Butt sledding haters?

I butt surf/glissade as needed for both safety reasons and for the sheer enjoyment of it! I can never please everyone so any negative comments [rare] pertaining to this I just ignore. Yeah, I've gone up steep slopes where people were obviously glissading and it's made going up more difficult but...

    Christmas Tree Story 2016

I would agree based upon some comments I've seen on Facebook! I find it amazing the negativity on something that is trying to be so positive and bring some holiday cheer. The ornaments are well attached and we take them down at the end of February.

Will you go gentle into that good hiking night

Good topic. At 62 my right knee does bother me due to arthritis but I'm able to do 4,000 footers with a couple of Aleve before heading out and using trekking poles. Some it has to do with mind over matter and just pushing through the discomfort. My plan for right now is do as much adventure...

    Rainier

I used RMI 40 years ago so it's quite possible things may have changed but reading the previous comments...maybe not. If you are fit and don't have any means to climb up with some friends, then RMI will get you up there. You will be marching up the mountain...more so on the first day up to...

Why are there still summit registers?

There have been times where I was not sure where the actual summit was due to thick brush, broad summit, etc. so the canister provided me assurance that I actually made it to the actual summit. In fact, I think it was on East Kennebago where I could not find the summit canister, so I returned to...
