Snow Pack Melt Predictions and Guesses for 2015

Do they make anything like snowshoes for mud ? I'd really like to get off trail in May, but last year it was not really possible.

ever see wild pigs in NH ?

I agree with everything you said, except that "there is not", which is why I asked. There may be. They are not protected. All you'd need is a hunting license and "permission" from Blue Mountain Forest Association, which they readily give apparently. In NH, on your own property, you wouldn't...

ever see wild pigs in NH ?

(Mods can delete this if it's out of line.) I'm tapping into the vast NH General Backcountry knowledge and experience here. (see, there's the tie-in ;)) I'm wondering if anyone has seen feral pigs/boar in NH ? I know the Corbin's Park/Blue Mountain Forest Association story. Just wondering if...

Spring is roaing in like a lion!

I'd say any area that is prone to damage from river ice breakup may be in for it. The ice and snow was still quite deep last week around the Whites. This was (not me) a few years ago in Woodsville: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYbrqsLFySY

Marcy Dam - does anyone camp there anymore???

it really only means I've posted too often. many members here have more real "status" than i ever will.

I don't believe this is an appropiate venue to disclose/uncover anyone's personal info. This is a public forum with many private members. Furthermore IMHO I think the Mods here should immediately delete any private info posted publically.

Marcy Dam - does anyone camp there anymore???

I keep inviting you. We could jog to several major trailheads ;). My only regret about going to NH more is going to NY less. Well, I did start there in Junior High, but...

Marcy Dam - does anyone camp there anymore???

Same deal here. Started there about 1974. We used to hike, in order to camp. It was "Winter Backpacking", not Hiking or Mountaineering or Peak Bagging. Summits were cool, but not the real goal. When I got back into it I was surprised how few people camped. ALL I've EVER done in the ADKs is...

It's staying in the closet: below 43' north.

Forgot how bad Polartec Fleece is

Sounds right except I can't locate "Windbloc" on it. Other than LL Bean and Polartec, the only other info is "Made in Qiz Jordan". I didn't expect this post to get 3 pages of replies. It was really just a note to myself to get this jacket out of the NH winter gear rotation. It's fine for...

Have you found those are warm enough and stiff enough ? I'm just now looking for something new; less than my koflachs but more than my hiking sneakers.

    missing hiker - Lancaster, NH

I'd say most winter peakbaggers, especially soloists, would never wear a climb or ski helmet It may have helped here. It's not hard to fall or get blown over.

Forgot how bad Polartec Fleece is

Good discussion. My point was specifically about the name brand fleece "Polartec". Avoid this material, in my experience. The Yankee in me has prevented me from throwing out this one jacket, which occasionally gets circulated into use.

    missing hiker - Lancaster, NH

If she got dropped off at 5am and didn't activate the plb until 3:30, she spent alot of time wandering around between Madison and Adams. May be a case where technology and her experience gave her a false sense of security, until it was too late. Sad and I'm glad no rescuers were hurt.

Forgot how bad Polartec Fleece is

this is a jacket. you can google Polartec Fleece. nothing necessarily againsr LL Bean except they made and sold this one. Polatec is/was about cheap "soft shell" material, i guess. "Waterproof and Breathable!!" but it's not really either.

Forgot how bad Polartec Fleece is

We discussed this quite a while ago. I should just throw it out. LL Bean Polartec Fleece. Traps and holds moisture like a sponge in a zip lock. Avoid.
