A recipe for a downright nasty weekend

I refused to don traction or rope up shoveling the roof this morning...but I prolly should've done both.

    Bretton Woods

We used to stay across the street from the entrance to the Mt Washington, whatever it's called now, Bretton Woods Lodge maybe, next to the new scenic parking lot. Anyway, newer rooms and bigger/better pool and sauna, had breakfast, shuttle access to BW and the Mt W and way cheaper than the Mt W.

"Elevation training" Mask ? Anyone seen these ?

Looks mildly interesting for those of us with limited time to train at low elevations. Might also be a decent mask under goggles in winter. "Introducing Training Mask, a new, patented (PAT.8.590.533 B2) "Resistance Training Device" product that helps condition the lungs by creating pulmonary...

    Kinsman question

Great pic Kinsmans and Canon separately are popular but the Canonballs, not so much. That section may not be broken. Plenty of "PUDs" all over up in there, with ice flow, but some light traction or smaller snowshoes should be fine. All 3 are a little longer day than you might think, with...

Three Specific Questions On Ice Axe

Right. Upside down and backwards is a strong potential and something that can be practiced. It's not the same as the standard slip flip and plant.

Three Specific Questions On Ice Axe

I like jfb's response a lot. 99.9%: You should NOT FALL to begin with. This is more complicated than it seems as it has to do with preparation: Some is mechanical, but most is physical for the winter. If you're tired, you're at risk. If you fall in an area that could kill you, an ax might help...

Don't want to be downstream here(March 2011 ice dam break in Woodsville on Wild Ammo)

I'm sure this was posted then, but whatever. Here it is again: http://unofficialnetworks.com/2014/12/cool-new-hampshire-ice-dam-breaks-the-wild-ammonoosuc-river

    skiing Cherry mtn road

We ski and snowmobile groomed trails in the whites, so I see both sides: BUT - I will hear them before they see me, so, I step off to the side when skiing even though I have the "right of way".

A bridge between 2 summits in the alps

This reminds me of the Observation Platform at The Grand Canyon, an abomination. I don't really care, maybe they were losing tourists to the edge there.

    Baxter Winter routes?

We went up Abol Slide in February. It was a near white-out above the slide and at the top. Have GPS coords for the summit and mark the route above the slide with wands. Finding the summit, and the correct route off, in blizzard is not easy.

"We're not going to find the bear," he said. "The bear was behaving naturally." That's good. Nature.

    Intuition Denali liners

I bought and sold a pair of the Intuition liners when I was trying to upgrade/size my Koflachs better. They just didn't fit/feel right. YRMV. I know they are very popular in some corners. I ended up finding an old pair of Koflach randonee boots on ebay whose liner felt/fit great, that I still use.

    Really Warm Hat

Yes. The standard is having a hooded down parka easily accessible for breaks and to put it on right away. I would use this at camp maybe. I have a hooded fleece I wear under a hooded shell and will take the hoods on and off as needed and will add a wool sherpa's hat too.
