    New YakTrax

Joe already owned a pair of Hillsounds...now he just owns A Hillsound. The left foot one is silently rotting away somewheres in the spruce hell of Wolf Cub. :D Brian

    e-readers on the trail?

I don't own an e-reader (I am a bit too nostalgic for my own good and just can't seem to get away from paper :D) but I do have a 160gb iPod I take with me on overnights. It has enough memory to hold all my music collection as well as movies thanks to an program that converts DVD's to the iPod's...

What is happening with MSR snowshoes?

I have the 25". They also have 30" as well, but when I bought mine the 25" ones were the only ones on sale. I was worried the 25" ones might not be good for breaking trail in deep snow, but the deal was too good to pass on. Well, sure enough Saturday my friend Joe and I broke out Ethan Pond...

What is happening with MSR snowshoes?

Yes. They still told me I had to buy new bindings. Kinda pissed me off since I knew other people were getting free replacements themselves. I may try again and send them pictures this time, but at this point it is all moot since I have the new pair of Tubb's Mountaineers (and love them 1000...

What is happening with MSR snowshoes?

Last year I noticed the material on my bindings shredding. I contacted MSR and described the situation eactly. They told me I could buy replacements or send them in for replacing, but both would cost me, NOT including the shipping, of $20 per from them or $30 per from the place they referred...

    The Value of a Patch

There could be any reason. I mean, even more morbid ones like the owner died and their family, not really knowing what the pack and patches meant to their lost loved one, just decided to sell it. Or it could be some poor person who fell on hard times and really really needs money. Maybe it is...

11 types of people you meet on a hike

Sadly I can say I HAVE met (and hiked with....but before I knew he was) the prison convict. :o Brian

Kahtoola Micro Spikes - Customer Service Review

Damn, you mean I could have gotten free replacements and other neat stuff!? And here I thought I was pretty inventive trying to fix them: Uploaded with ImageShack.us :D Brian

Bonds Traverse + Zealand (it's on the way), 1/8/2011

Well, that was an interesting day! So this was the most miles I had ever hiked at a single time before. The longest dayhike I have ever done. It was also one of the most memorable. It was the most I have ever pushed my body and while it was a close thing I found I could have done it. But...

Carrying a DSLR: gotta be a better way

Ok, my friend got back to me. He says he gets asked about his bag set up a lot and thus has a set of three pictures displaying the rig right on his website: http://scenicnh.photoshelter.com/gallery/Camera-Bag/G0000VOwlrRxOTuY Now, it may SEEM like it may be uncomfortable in the pictures, but...

    Clinton RD

Yup, don't expect to get a car on it until at least late May. I have done the roadwalk between the Crawford Path Connector lot (at the end of Mt. Clinton Road) and Edmunds Path twice. It is not too bad. We did a loop up over Pierce and Ike, and obviously somone else does this on occasion too...

Carrying a DSLR: gotta be a better way

I can see what I can do for you. He is not registered here on VFTT (more a lurker) but I think I might be able to get some kind of picture of it. The bag he uses (padded) and the angle the bag sits at conspire to make the camera pretty snug in there so that it does not just flop out. Again...

Carrying a DSLR: gotta be a better way

I have a friend who is a professional freelance photographer who does the bulk of his work in the Whites. He uses a toploader for his cameras, but how he wears it is, for lack of a better description, like the cowboy wears his six gun. It may be hard to describe it to visualize, but he managed...

Real Wet in the Woods today !

You ain't kidding! Did Carrigain yesterday and for most of the hike up I was in my t shirt! By the time we started climbing the summit cone from Signal Ridge we were getting rained on! Oh well, this is pretty good actually. Once the temps drop back down again we will have a nice solid base...

    Waterfalls in Winter
