    Paddles.

Perfect, just the kind of info I was looking for! Thanks! And the $50-$100 savings over the other paddles is nice since, besides the kayak, I still have to get a PFD, roof rack AND kayak carrier, Scotty Rod holders and a Mad Frog Gear Lily Pad base for those!.....going to be doing my best to...

    Paddles.

I am finally getting a kayak for both fishing and general recreational paddling. I have the kayak picked out (Wildernes Systems Pungo 120) but what I don't have picked out yet is the paddle. So I am looking around at the options I have. Since I want to save a little money in the long run by...

Rumors about Thoreau Falls Bridge Removal

Phew, OK, I thought so. I actually have not been on the bridge in question yet (I was supposed to as part of the backpacking trip, but we decided to abbreviate our trip a bit and cut it out) but I have been on the one you are talking about and from the pictures of the T.F. Trail bridge I was...

Rumors about Thoreau Falls Bridge Removal

Unless I am missing something I believe you are talking about the bridge on the Ethan Pond Trail near the THoreau Falls Trail. The one I believe we are talking about is down near the Wilderness Trail end, and thus not on the AT. Brian

Rumors about Thoreau Falls Bridge Removal

You watch, this is starting a trend of....well I won't say "laziness" on the part of the USFS as "Neglect though lack of funding". It started with the Lincoln Brook trail past the slide out and around to 13 Falls. I know of the guy who adopted this section (he is on Hike-NH) but this sadly may...

New Year's Winter Presidential Traverse, in 12 Pictures of Course - 1/1/2012

It was great seeing you all Sunday. Man, what a hell of a day to be up there, huh!?!? Don't get many like that, that is for sure. Brian

Twins and Galehead the easy way - 1/1/12

That undercast yesterday was incredible, huh!? Me and some friends spent the day on Adams and Madison, and the ever changing undercast made for one of the most incredible days above trrline I have ever seen! Glad you guys got this one nice and easy. I managed to get them done last year on the...

    Wildcat pass required for hikers?

    Why, that sounds like a wonderful idea.....but I may be biased. ;) :D Brian \/ \/ \/ \/

    Energy drinks.

Since we are opening up the topic of overall eating..... After a lot of personal fidgeting with my pre hike and during hike intake I have found what works for me (and again, this is what works for me and might not work for others, but I think seeing posts here sort of jives with what others are...

Balsams Hotel Sold - Impact to Northern Pass

And as a personal commentary on the latest news..... This, I think, is a good sign. Not so much that PSNH/HQ/NP are one step closer to losing the Balsams ROW (though of course that is a big bonus.) Rather I find it significant that an important sector of the State Government who has a big...

Balsams Hotel Sold - Impact to Northern Pass

And some more light reading for this fine Christmas Eve day :D : http://www.forestsociety.org/news/press-release.asp?id=563 As well as the link provided in the above release of the letter from the NH Attorney Generals Charitable Trust division...

    Garmin GPSMAP 62 Series

I (as well as 2 other of my friends) own 60Cx's. My Friend Mike owns a 62. We all seem to like our respective GPSes. When combined as a duo/trio/quartet things work out rather well. What is funny is the thing Nessmuk likes about the 60 and hates about the 62 is completely flipped for me...

Balsams Hotel Sold - Impact to Northern Pass

I am proud of the Balsams telling Northern Pass to go pound dirt. Large utilities have gotten used to generally getting their way even with public disapproval. I hope we can teach PSNH that they can't do what they want, when they want, and expect us all to accept things in the end. Most...

    Energy drinks.

For some reason sour-sugary (is that even a word!? :D ) do it for me. Nothing will perk me up faster than a small bag of Sour Skittles and following that with some water. I learned a lesson the hard way that caffeine during a hike can be a very bad thing. I was dragging ass one day this past...
