    Franconia ridge questions

I am those in the CW group. I like having the reason to stop more often on the way up to enjoy the views. I like getting Lafayette done first because when you go from there to Lincoln it just feels less imposing whereas when you are standing on Lincoln and heading toward Lafayette it has a...

Tunnel Brook-Mt. Clough - Sunday 7/17/11 - Easy going hike

Word of adivce, Google Maps has to be taken with a grain of salt. Road names tend to vary sometimes. Your Hummingbird lane IS Tunnel Brook Road. ;) Brian

Heh heh, for me this is the hikers version of Christmas! This event has become one of the most important days of my year. :)

Flags on the 48 - 2011 - The Ten Year Anniversary

Currently holding at 44 of 48. Washington, Owl's Head, Madison (!) and Galehead are still open for the taking! Brian

Flags on the 48 - 2011 - The Ten Year Anniversary

Flags is now LIVE! 41 of 48 peaks are taken, a few good ones still are open! Washington and Madison can be yours for the taking (as well as the others. ) Brian

Mt Crawford Loop Hike Using Portion of Abandoned Razor Brook Trail (07-July-2011)

Woo hoo, I am not many people! :D You know, I occasionally browse the old maps on the UNH site, but somehow the Razor Brook trail escaped my notice. It is too bad it was abandoned because, while in general I kind of like the Davis Path, the part I really hate is the drop from Crawford to...

    Appalachia to Pinkham Visitor Ctr.

Alas you have discovered the one weak link in the "multi-night on the Presis" deal. All the established overnight sites are IMHO inconveniently located for anyone looking to do more than the book ends of the Presis (except for Lakes of the Clouds which is, let's be honest, so ridiculously...

Portion of Tuckerman Ravine trail closed 7/18/11 for 4-5 weeks for reconstruction

Ouch! Perhaps one of the most popular trails in the Whites closed during perhaps the height of the summer hiking season....yeah, ouch! Brian

Parking tickets issued at Lincoln Woods

This happened to my friend Mike last year, only I think at that time they tried to nail him for $75. He called them and explained the situation (he messed up and forgot all about the pass) and they told him to just send the $2 for the daily parking pass and they would call it good. So give the...

    Maine Hikers Save A Fawn

Ahhh quite possibly! Actually, knowing his flair for the unusual maybe a wild blueberry and habanero sauce. :D Brian

    East and South Hitchcock

Nice meeting you too even though I didn't know I was meeting you. :D The moose sighting was a true stunner. Bob noticed the momma first. He thought it was another hiker coming up the trail but then he saw it was a moose. I was looking for a couple of seconds when I saw movement come from off...

    East and South Hitchcock

Ok, call me Mr. Oblivious......I just realized it was you and Becca we saw Sunday on Cedar Brook trail near the Wilderness boundary. My friend BobC and I were the two guys backpacking out to Stillwater Junction for the night. I don't know why it did not dawn on me until now. :D Anyways, you...

    Dual Survival

I saw a video (on YouTube I think) of Cody giving a guy a tour of his home in Arizona. It is all green and sustainable. So yes, he is the real deal. He lives the lifestyle he preaches. I also like Dave very much. He is someone a relate to. I think he said it best in this last episode...

    Maine Hikers Save A Fawn

It is times like this I ask "What would Bobby Flay do". I think the great Iron Chef would add a side of asparagus in a nice white sauce. But I also think he may buck the crowd and go with a fine pan seared venison tenderloin garnished with a fine tasty Maine blueberry sauce. Brian

    East and South Hitchcock

Heh heh, that is funny Raymond. When my buddy Mike and did East Hitch I lost my water bottle, but thankfully found it again about 50 yards from the summit. Phew! Having bagged all the Hitches now I can honestly say the Bitchcock moniker is probably a bit overstated. The only real bear was...

    Maine Hikers Save A Fawn

Hey, maybe the hikers were feeling like they owed nature "one" for past injustices. Kill dodo birds into extinction......save a fawn....it all works out in the end, right? ;) Brian

    Isolation via Glen Boulder?

The only thing about doing Iso that way is that Isolation becomes very anti-climatic after all that time in the Alpine zone. :D That area of alpine zone is one of my favorites, and the views from Iso nice, but not anywheres as exciting as being in that gorgeous area. Brian

    Maine Hikers Save A Fawn

Driving up I saw a fawn carcass on 93 that was vaporized by what I assume was an 18 wheeler. So I guess in some odd way this voids the fawns death in Maine. Humans intervened to save the one in Maine and this one died thanks to a human. Circle of life goes on. Brian
