    Proposed Antrim NH wind turbines

*sigh* Great, more of these ugly and useless things invading our state. Brian

    What was that shining light?

Maybe it was the GHOST of skylab. :D Brian

    Black Crescent N & S

I am not positive, but I think my friend Mike mentioned that Bog Dam road has been closed since last year because it needs repair. I will check some more into it for you and post back. Brian

    Bye-bye Pressie Traverse

A fitting end to your adventures here! Looks like you had a great day and a great cast of characters! Good luck as you head west young man. :D Brian

    Bar Island summit

Both times up there our group saw no less than a dozen deer each time. It blew our minds! :D It sure is a fun little hike, if nothing but for the novelty of walking a sandbar across only useable for a few hours a day. Brian

    Forest & Crag--New Edition Available!

Well if the electronic edition of F&C does have the illustrations then it is a big plus! The illustrations are half of what make F&C so great! :D Brian

    Forest & Crag--New Edition Available!

If I understand things correctly you don't even get the origional format as is. I hear Kindle versions of books do not contain any illustrations or pictures (one of the biggest gripes about e-readers I think). Someone please correct me if I am wrong. Brian

It's time for a family tent...

Actually I have had wonderful luck with LL Bean gear. I am on a second pair of Cresta boots (the first pair had about 3000 miles on them and are actually still serviceable) and my winter backpack is made by LL Bean (and should it ever give up the ghost I would buy another in a heartbeat). I...

    Mt. Monroe, Mt Washington 5/13/11

Your story reminds me of my Uncle. He used to tell me how his cousin Ray got his major in forestry, and hiking with him was always a walking lecture of the trees they saw along the way. :D Hope he has a great life in Denver. I suppose there aren't many better places a geologist could find...

    Moving out West.....and bye-bye hike 5/21

Damn, no more random Swedish chef encounters on the trail!? "Who was that masked man!?" "I dunno, but he makes killer meatballs!" :D Best of luck on this next great adventure. As my forefathers would say "Bonne chance, mon amie"....sorry, don't know how to translate French to Swedish though...

Biggest D'oh "That Was Stupid" Moment

Yeah, but you forgot the best punchline for this mistake. What were we supposed to hike that day?......SMARTS Mountain. :D Brian

Biggest D'oh "That Was Stupid" Moment

The one that sticks out the most in my memory..... My friend Mike and I are talking about what to do on one summer weekend. Me: "Well, it's going to rain...you still want to go bushwhacking?" Mike: "Hey, no mater what we will probably get stuck in the rain, so a whack is as good as a trail...

Mt. Agamenticus, ME and Second Hill

I remember doing this gem of a little hill a couple winters ago with McRat. It was made all the better when we stopped off at the Redhook Brewery for food and refreshment (I was cajoled into tasting some of the beer sampler by Russ even though I don't drink just so I could call it for V&B :D )...

See, this is the problem though. As I understand it they will be fencing off the towers (I assume with chainlink, but if they are paranoid they may go barbed wire too) in a 1200' wide area, so no one would be able to get within 1200 feet of them, and I think the fenced off area is what may...

    Helping the New Hiker

I am somewhat similar. I have a good size breakfast of complex carbs (important note...COMPLEX CARBS) before leaving the house. The drive of about 1 1/2-3 1/2 hours (depending on where I am going that day) gives plenty of time to get the complex carbs into the system. I then top off with...

    Bickford and Scarface – Now There's a Pair! (12-Apr-2011)

Big Bickford was a great whack I did last spring in some sweet snow conditions that got me some through the trees views of Cannon. I loved it! Decided to go to Scarface after I saw a report you wrote a few weeks previous to my trip. Another dandy little peak (though I did not make it over to...

    Trail Tools

My three most used tools: Loppers, saws, hazel hoe. A hatchet is redundant if you have a good bow saw. In reality I was taught that if you DO go with a hatchet make sure it is a larger two handed version. A one handed version can be dangerous to wield. 2 Hands give you more control. But...

    First 2011 Cohos trailwork weekend June 3, 4 &/0r 5th

Thanks, I'll keep a watch out too. I am also curious because I have wanted to backpack some of the northern sections of the trail (I am absolutely in love with the woods up there) and of course the wind farm may change those plans. Massive logging cuts and chain link fences cordoning off giant...
